| Front Parking Distance Aid Inactive |
|
Hi All,
just developed this annoying bug, when I start up , or if I am moving slowly the front parking aid alarm comes on and the dash shows the following warning ' Front Parking Distance Aid Inactive'. The sensors are nice and clean. Any Ideas what could cause this ?

Hi Rich,
Mine has been doing this for a while. When I took the car to the dealer to get the air con sorted they could not find the fault. However, they did say it is sometimes caused by the cable chaffing and the only way to check is by removing the bumper which is an expensive option.
I did wonder if I would unplug each sensor in turn and see if the fault persists. However, I am not sure if the system works by the sensors having a resistance or being open circuit normally. I am sure someone will come along and tell us.

It will take you 30 - 45 minutes to get the bumper off. Depending on if you have an A-bar - spots etc.
You can disable the front PDC to stop the annoying sounds and faults on the dashboard.
This can be edited in the CCF.
Your dealer should be able to do that or if you know someone with a faultmate multivehicle licence.

Hi Rich,
Have you had any joy in fixing your problem?
My car has just started doing the same. I'm told that the warning means that the front PDC is disabled due to a fault with the rear system! I have raked around behind the front bumper and the wiring looks ok and all sensors front and rear make a 'ticking' noise if you listen very closely which I believe means they're ok. I did have exactly the same problem when I replaced the PDC speaker a couple of months ago and initially was sold a faulty speaker - reverting to my original speaker (and subsequently a new one) fixed the problem. I'm wondering if either the new speaker is dodgy too (was a second hand one) so will replace it and see what happens. Either that or the speaker is a complete red herring and an intermittant problem elsewhere has led me astray....

Mine has just started doing this.... great!
Has anyone managed to find the problem? Im happy to remove bumpers etc, but i dont know whether to start at the front or the back due to mixed messages above.
Pretty annoying as it disables all sensors!

You need to check the rear ... It disables the front if there is a fault .
Either a sensor or chaffed / broken wire
If you can get it checked with some diagnostic equiptment It should tell you which one is at fault G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

I had the same issue with my Front Sensors soon after I purchased my 55plate D3 @ 18 months ago.
Having had a quick search through the forum and seen where everything connects up I decided to try the simple option first, and have not had any problems since.
Behind the Drivers side headlight, which is a 30sec job to remove, or 1min if you have guards fitted, are the loom connectors for the front sensors.
All I did was unplug them, clean them out with some WD40 as I’d run out of electrical contact cleaner, and plugged them back together making sure the seals etc were lubricated with the WD40 and that they were fully home.
It was literally a 5min job, so worth trying before going any further.
Nasher. Heaven doesn't want me, and hell is afraid I'll take over.

Thanks for the feedback guys.
I had the car backwards up the ramps today, and could feel the wires for the outside 2 sensors were intact, but that was all i could feel without removing anything.
Think i will get the healight off tomorrow and have a quick look. Ive only just noticed how much i rely on them now!

i had the same message, the front inner two were not ticking when tested, both replaced and all working fine now.

i have the same problem occur today for the first time. message on dash says ' FRONT PARKING AID INACTIVE ' continuous beeping for 5 seconds.
So ive plugged in the Faultmate FCR (incidenatlly which ive just had repaired as no fault found but it cost me 70 quid ((their online update is rubbish!! )))
FAULTMATE says, ""fault code B1B52."" ""REAR SOUNDER - COMPONENT FAILURE: INTERNAL FAILURE - PERMANENT.""
SO NEXT I RESET (CLEAR) THE FAULT USING THE FAULTMATE - AND LOCK THE CAR THEN UNLOCK IT SWITCH ON IGNITION AND IT HAPPENS AGAIN, SO LOOKS LIKE I'LL BE STRIPPING THE REAR DOWN TO HAVE A LOOK.
Its interesting that its the rear which has a fault but the front becomes inoperable.
will post when i have further info.....

My 07 fitted with front and rear park sensors also showed a fault.
It appears any fault disables the whole system.
In my case the problem appeared to be the rear outer sensor according to the fault code. I swapped the sensor with the other outer one and the fault did not migrate (too bad I had already ordered a new sensor!) which left me suspecting the wiring loom. I couldn't see any visual signs of chafing but it appears previous owner/mechanic had some kind of splice bodge at one end which didn't match the factory photos (maybe they tried to cut out chafed wire instead of replace). Long story short, ordered a new wiring loom, swapped all the sensors over, and presto front and rear sensors all working. It was the loom not the sensor after all.
Lesson learned - fault codes aren't always reliable at nailing the exact problem, in my case at least it told me to look to the rear assembly not the front.

If you can hear which one is not "ticking" then you may be able to swap it out easily enough. Mine was the drivers (RHD) outer front which can be replaced without taking the bumper off. A bit tricky, but removing the headlamp and front fog (three screws) gives just enough access to the connector and plastic clips that hold the sensor in place.
I think I paid about £28 from Ebay.
