No problems at all. Just get them blanked and leave the blanking plates on permanently.

what year is your car, as your cant blank the EGR's on a euro4 engine.
If its a Euro3 engine, then blank them off (and remove the inlet butterfly) and dont bother replacing them at all.

The only issue (as I was informed of today by my Indy) is that the flap in the intake is also there to stop engine run-away, should there be an oil leak in to the cylinders. It's part of the engine management set up, and if the ECU detects runaway (how it would I don't know) it shuts the flap and therefore kills the air supply.

but if you dont take the butterfly out, with the EGRs blanked, where does the engine get its air from on the overrun, as the normal set up (without blanking) is butterfly closes + EGR's open = engine has something to breath (albeit exhaust crap). If you blank the EGR's without taking the butterfly out then there's nothing (air or exhaust) reaching the engine.

That's the thing Al, you have to take the butterfly out to make the mod work, but the butterfly serves another function of shutting the engine down if it runs away. I guess the ECU looks at the revs and the throttle position and if the revs are high without the throttle being open then it thinks it's run away and kills it by shutting the EGR's and the flap. But that's only a guess. 2014 D4 XS

certainly beats jumping out and stuffing a rag into the air intake to stop it (as seen done on a 300TDi D1), which didnt quite work as it stuck a conrod out the side of the block

Maybe someone will now come up with a manually operated (via a switch in the cab) butterfly
