Aftermarket Towbar

Hello,
The wife is nagging for me to use the Discovery as a tow car.
I had not planned on this but pressure is mounting.
Does anyone know if there is an aftermarket towbar or will I have to go with the Land Rover one for warranty issues.
Also, any idea of the cost at an LR dealer?
Many thanks

Unfortunately, you will have to go with th LR one. It is sadly a bit of a con as well. This is because the main fitting uses the slot in hook and the wiring is very simply a plug in harness.

I have the extra heavy duty tow bar (wiring is the same) but then they still put the intial bar into the hook system and then add on two extra brackets, which in fact look aweful and lower the ascent angle for uphill climbs.

This means that if you have a 'hook' type, you will pay about £200 (weighs a ton) for a plug in unit and about the rest is a wiring harness that takes about 30 minutes.

No one yet makes the hook adapter, because knowing Ford it is under licence.

Just had a quote back from my dealership.
£470.00 inclusive of VAT and fitting.
Not as bad as I thought - I remember going through this for my odl company BMW - that was over £1,000!!!
Oh well looks like I'm going to have to go with this now!

Yes that is for the LR hook type. I am of the opinion that it is far too expensive, but we are stuck at the moment.

Anyone know if Dixon Bate make the D3 tow kit? (They made all the earlier stuff for LR and that was a good, cheap way of getting aftermarket towing). There's nothing on their web site, so perhaps Ford have given them the boot so (as BN says) we all have to pay through the nose!

I have searched and it appears at the moment to be a OEM product. The huge tow ball casting is too much possibly for the likes of DB and others at this early stage. I am sure dealer fit for the heavy bar is much less however, but it looks aweful. I have one, but then mine is for heavy duty work.

Hmm. That's the problem I've got - I need to transfer my 'pin & ball' hitch from my Disco II when I get a D3 (hopfully very soon) and, of course, it'll only fit the heavy bar. Also, my bike carrier from the spare wheel of the D II will have to go in favour of the tow-bar-mount version. More money Rolling Eyes
