Another fault !! Whee heee |

I have my custom button an my remote set up so that I can turn on or off the head lamps how ever for some reason yesturday when i press the button the boot part releases open, not all the way it just pops of the latch and is held in place by a second catch. I have tried to reprogramme the remote operate the lights but its not having any of it, The boot release isnt bad I had it on my bmw and it is usefull but this does not release fully and you have still press the button on the handle which makes it pointless on the LR.
Any thought or help would be great

This happened to me too. Was in a car park and I think my wife opened the boot as I was trying to program the LR button to control the suspension... it didn't work. Found out later that evening that my boot opened when I pressed the button. Seems her actions took priority over mine (usually the way with women eh ?)
Anyway... I had no problem re-doing the lights trick. Just held the button while I flashed the headlights. All set again.
Suspension trick was not practical as you have to set the hazard lights going before it works... would be good to be able to lower the car as you approach it rather than having to open the door, turn on hazards, close the door and then press the button.

I no what you mean I also tried programming the remote to lower and raise the suppension but could not understand the logic behind having to turn the hazards on first, Must be a safety thing

So, surely it is only a small step for LR to allow the same button to be programmed to activate the fuel burning heater, as so many of us want, seeing it has so many tricks up its sleeve that are not mentioned in the owner's manual!

Yeah. The LR button seems to be able to take on many of the cars commands. that'd be great. But then I don't have a fuel burning heater in my lowly 'S'

Simon - useful, I'd forgotten that not all TDV6's had the heater; which rather makes a nonsense of the dealers claim that the reason that it could not be switched off (for refuelling safety) was that it was necessary to ensure correct temperatures & avoid engine damage in cold starts!!! - unless of cours they are saying that your S without the heater will have a shorter engine life Quite frankly, I think I'd rather do without it & save the extra fuel it appears to burn (it's on almost all the time for my short commute runs & I only get 19.3mpg currently!)

mmm... unless its there and I have to access to it as my Settings Menu is not enabled. LR Advice told me it should be and the dealer can enable it for me... will have to see.
I regularly get 27-29MPG even if driving quite hard. I think if you stay in the torque band (don't change up till around 3,000 revs) the fuel consumption is better than changing up early.
Then you have an auto so this may not help.

Simon - even if the timer is not accessable, if the pre-heater is fitted it will be working automatically (according to LR!) - it is a box in the engine bay, near side towards front, that has a miniature exhaust pipe & silencer (seriously!!) coming out of it, down the inside of the wing & out ahead of the n/s front wheel. The box has cabling to it, & a fuel pipe - also mine has a label with the manufacturer (Webasco?) & it's power etc (I think it's 5 or 6 kw) Would be interesting to know if yours has it fitted. Other give away is the "smell" at front of car at start up!! I can't break 20mpg. regardless of Auto, Sport, or Command Shift & I have tried your earlier suggestion of holding revs up, hence my thoughts of the culprit turn to the heater...

Will let you know. Far as I know its not as the engine is always cold and so is the heating in the mornings,

I was advised by dealer that the fuel burning heater was standard on all models (diesel at least, not sure about petrol) so it should be there. This was a while ago though before all the issues around its operation came to light. I'll take a look at the docs on LR GTR and see if it's mentioned there at all.
Ecosse, is your Disco3 an auto? I'm guessing Simon's is a manual being an S (I'm going to order the same very soon) which would explain better (but not 10mpg better) fuel consumption

Ref fuel consumption, I have an Auto tdv6 hse, and use it for a mixture of short commutes 2 days, long distance 3 days per week.
When I first got it I was pretty horrified to find it was costing more to run than my LPG Disco 2 V8 that I'd had previously. The old D2 used to do 13 mpg on LPG (Half Price so equivalent to 26 mpg on petrol).
Now I have over 4000 miles, it is improving rapidly. This week, I have done 2 days long distance, and 2 days commuting to the office. I filled up on Monday morning, and reset the computer. The average for this week is 26.0 mpg.

most of my runs are long (over 20 miles and up to 150 to London) and in the S (manual) it never goes below 26.8 at worst (from what I remember) to best I've seen so far of 32MPG.
I don't drive slow but avoid changing up too early as this seems to make the engine labour... you loose momentum fast in this car !
Will see if I have the FBH later when I get back home. If its there, then as I get no Settings menu currently I cannot program it. Pretty sure its not though.
