hi,
When selecting different terrain modes does the engine actually change its tuning? or does the pedal to throttle ratio mearly change?
I have searched for graphs power vs torque but can't find any for different modes. Are there any?
just curious as i read in sand mode you get 80bhp (another forum) more but could not find data to prove it. It is better to have and not need it then need and not have it.

Probably just the process of locking up the torque converter earlier gives that impression? Bodsys Brake Bible

It's not unknown.
It only changes the throttle mapping/sensitivity.
Remember that it's an "electronic" throttle (drive-by-wire). You can push the pedal down as hard and fast as you want, but the EMS will only allow the acceleration that it sees as being "correct" for the circumstances.
When you put the TR into Sand Mode, it makes it much more sensitive, meaning that you get a lot more throttle opening (and faster) for the same pedal travel.
The engine will NEVER have more power than that stated on the approval/specification, but the way that this power is delivered can be varied as the manufacturer sees fit (something that LR use to good effect with the TR modes).
On the other hand if you stick it in Rock Crawl, you'll find the throttle very "lazy". So lazy in fact, that it may never allow full throttle opening (I'm not in the habit of putting my foot down in RC so can't confirm) which may actually give less power, but never more power/torque than the maximum values specified 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

I thought it did change the mapping as getting a re-map does not change the mapping when in TR. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

I suspected the accelerater potetiometer ratio was just altered as this is often done by some cheap performance chips to give the impression of more power. I had hoped it may offer a remap to suit the condition as many cars and even motorbikes have now (bmw) and with all the other electrowizardry available on the d4 it didn't seem too far fetched.
Caverd3 I had heard that too hence my original query. It is better to have and not need it then need and not have it.

I do not believe TR increases the power or torque just alters the proportions. Others may know if it changes it at all. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€
