Rear Propshaft Centre Bearing

Had a go at changing rear propshaft centre bearing yesterday.
I had to split the prop to get the new bearing on, after refitting the prop and test driving i checked underneath the car and have noticed grease is leaking from where the 2 parts of the propshaft fit together.
Should i now just just replace the rear prop in full?
Any thoughts on stopping the leak of the grease?
Is it save to drive, what would happen if all the grease comes out?

How did you split the propshaft. I have tried to replace the centre bearing this-morning but the prop doesn't want to come apart. Does the prop need a "strong tap" with a hammer to split it. Does it have a simple "ring" clip on the spline?

I am interested in what symptoms you had to know you needed to replace the bearing?

I asked because I have a whine at motorway speed and when I easy off and coast the whine stops!!

Sounds more like diff? Shocked Check the oil level.
Centre bearing usually gives a vibration.

I have replace 3 rear props ( on 3 different cars!)

I get propshafts reconditioned by a prop repair company and have been told that despite the centre bearing being a part that we can buy, fitting it is not a very easy job - In fact it usually fails after fitting. Apparently the prop has to be cut and then welded afterwards.

My man said that the only sure replacement is a whole rear prop.

The bearing and the rubber casing that supports the bearing fails due to the CV joint at the gearbox end failing - usually get some vibration first and then severe vibration.

Try BEARMACH for a rear prop -TVB500360 about £245.00

Surprised
Did they all sound like that?
Was it the bearing or the bush?
