Looking at a D3 HSE this morning - quick questions

Firstly, what to look out for. I know to check all the electrics and the air suspension. But what else?

Secondly, Warranty. The dealer is offering a 3yr 5* AA Warranty for £395 which seems too good to be true. The bad news is a single claim limit of £1000. Is it worth the paper it's written on?

Hi,
The AA rang me only last week, we have 3persons on our AA membership they ofered me £500
towards any warranty works needed on 3 vehicles for £130 pr year, you can have up to 3 or 5
separate claims pr year not sure what she said, I would have taken it on if she had said £1000
Maybe if there had only been 1 vehicle she might have offered me the £1000.
You could ring the AA and see what you get for your money, at the end of the day it's a gamble.
I will look into it when my renewal comes up 2months on. IMHO sounds a fair deal for 5years Thumbs Up

Car comes with 6mths free warranty but inclined to extend to 3yrs for £395.

No maximum number of claims, no excess, Air Con and Turbo covered. Seems like a no brainer.

I'll put some cash away for £1000+ claims as a separate safety net.

Dave

It's a £1000 towards to cost of repairs if something major gives up.
It should cover the niggly things that no doubt will go wrong.

Regarding things to look for, how long have you got Whistle

If it looks good, take a chance Thumbs Up

£1000 might not go that far at a main dealer but there's plenty of excellent Independent LR specialists who can do an awful lot of repairing for that! What's the age and mileage?

Its not just £1000 limit to consider, he's also not having to pay the £500+ per year prices people are paying for warranties. Seems pretty good to me and I can't see the AA leaving him in the lurch over some minor technical glitch!

There must be some T&C's though, check what it is. I would assume AA Membership is compulsory (not a bad thing) but check that you don't have to have all the servicing and repairs done at main dealers (again, not a bad thing but it makes a big difference to your sums!)

Also, I agree with Frapp, if it looks good, take a chance!

Anything that might point towards impending turbo failure - black smoke out of the back when you apply full throttle, lack of power and (obviously) any strange dash messages.

Also, make sure you give the EPB a good workout. I got mine from a dealer in Essex and I don't think anyone had ever used the handbrake - just popped it into 'P'. I got back from the test drive and remembered to give the EPB a few good goes to make sure it applied and released properly without noise. It got stuck on! Dealer had to release it using the manual method and did pay for it to be fixed - about £450 in the end for fitting a new module at the back.

Good luck. They are top motors really despite their little foibles Thumbs Up

Done a bit of looking around for warranty AA seemed very poor on what it covered compared to other ones like WD or WW, they quoted me £470ish interest free over 2 years for 2 years cover, but when I got the booklet half the stuff was not covered, it's the old saying you pay for what you get,

What model year is it ?
You need to establish if the EGR valves and rear suspension bushes need replacing or been replaced already.
