As you may be aware i have had issues with the D3 Ie vin plates missing, I am sure it has been in a bump but dealer says not(experion check),I have been told that an insurance company can pay out to get the vehicle repaired but it will not show up on Experion, I am thinking the parts replaced are Wing, Light, Bumper, Grill, Airbags Front, Dash, steering wheel and maybe some engine bits have found so far:-
Different dated head light
Both dash and cross member vin lates missing
loose pop out cup holder passenger side
torque bolts have been undone (paint cracked)
Now another find there is no counter ballence weight in the steering wheel and it has yellow chalk/paint writing on the inside (just like you used to get at scrap yards on there parts)
Phoned insurance ombudsman they cannot help, phoned insurance company they no help, went on Direct.Gov/MOT website to check previous mot's, phoned every garage that had mot'd the vehicle to see if they done any repair, no joy, one even refered me to Guy Salmon, They mot all GS vehicles, GS said they don't have work shop so they have no history of any damage, even used Google Earth and Maps.Google to see the premisis of the three mot centres but no joy,
Does anyone know of any other ways that i can find out if it has been in a bump, I would like to get new tyres on soon but do not want to spend money on it if it has, I will instead be paying a visit back to the dealers,

Take it the police and say you think it may be stolen, they will check it for you free

If it was repaired for cash then there will be no trace through any of the routes you've suggested.
If it appears OK and you've taken all steps to find out it's history and it checks out I would leave it at that and enjoy it.

You may have a problem if you ever try to sell it! I would never buy it with VIN plates missing, never mind the other bits and bobs you mention, sounds well dodgy to me
Depending when it was that it was possibly repaired, the part numbers might be later replacements for the ones fitted at the factory - such as the headlight you mention. Of course, it could have fallen off the transporter at the factory and been repaired on site before it entered the traceable system.A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.

Re steering wheel, wouldn't worry re that as mine is exactly same, saw all that when swapped to heated one. Do you have a manufacture date? Check seat belts & lights for roughly that then look for date stamps on parts that are much newer, poss after registration date.

Have you tried contacting the prior owner, listed on the V5?

Was the vehicle previously owned by a private individual or a company/body?

Bought it from approved dealer, my previous thread on vin plates tells all on that have it booked in at dealers to ge the new ones fitted,
Back to topic anyway V5 did come with it and I was gonna contact the previous owner but thought I would try and find something out before going to previous owner, if they have paid cash or insurance cash for bump then they traded it in without telling dealer then don't think they gonna tell me as it could put them in a sticky situation when I go back to dealers,

The HPI would show if insurance has paid out for damage, not just if it has been a total loss....you need to look at the section to see when its been checked before I think (sorry long time since I have looked at a printout).
A police PNC check will be useless since it will only give vehicle markers like stolen, no insurance, cherished plate information (past & present), vehicle of interest marker (owned by a baddie - they wont tell you thoses details or even if it has a marker present)..... there is a section called V25 submitted which links the vehicle to a previous write off but this is less detailed than the HPI stuff.
You could do with an insurance database check - I think their system is called something like Miafta and it lists all payouts, this is one of the systems used by HPI, your insurance company will have access to it but you would need to get through to the correct department for any chance of them helping you!
Hope this helps

When we bought ours the salesman made a big thing about part of the vehicles electronics acting as a data logger/black box recorder, it could be used in the event of a crash or speeding conviction at the owners request.
It's possible it may keep a record of 'major events' that may be of use to you.....Club N.E.R.D.s

Aye, luvbus, I've heard of that, where an air bag blackbox recorded a speed when it fired off the airbag, and this information was used to convict the driver, only thing is, if they have replaced the airbag's black box thingy it won't show it having a crash.
Thing is, I can't see why an approved dealer would sell a vehicle without vin plates, (would have thought that would be illegal) is there any way of finding out the engine number and running a trace off that or has that been removed too?
Vin plate under drivers door matchs V5 doc not too sure where the engine one is,
Tbh when I went to have a look at the disco never even thought about checking vin plate due to the fact it was approved dealer
Dealer does not seem concerned it may have been involved in bump they just give the excuses it could have fallen out when/if had windscreen replaced, also re different headlight dates quote"a while back people were sterling disco3 headlights" unquote, more believable excuse could have been head light hit by stone and cracked so had it replaced
