back on topic
I had a similar problem in the D4.
the ignition came on with the button push but then the car wouldnt turn over at all. All the electrics seemed OK
I connected some jump leads and the car started fine. I suspected maybe the battery was too low to start the engine so the electronics decided they wouldny bother trying. The car had been unused for 14 days.
Never had the problem since, even when the car has been left for a similar time Duncan

The screens were on, just no ignition.
Similar to my experience on a 2010 RRSnort. Screens on but no ignition. I was pushing the foot brake whilst trying to start and nothing, nada, zilch. Just screens on but no ignition.
So I pressed the button again, switched off the screens, got out, locked the car and nipped into the house for a few minutes, waiting for the car to go to sleep.
When I returned, same drill, and the car started.
A few days later the same thing happened again. This time I pushed the button again to switch off, then I pushed the foot brake hard and then I pushed the button to start. The car started.
My conclusion? When the foot brake is hard to press at the start of a day, your normal foot pressure will not depress it enough to activate the switch that will allow the engine to start. I thought I was pressing the pedal, and so I was, but with insufficient force to move it. This was quite common when the car was new and is rare now, 10 months later. It was, in my experience, a user problem - and I was that user. The Start/Stop button was fine.
No doubt some technical wizard will come along in a mo' to explain why the foot brake does this.

if the temp is REALLY cold, does the brake fluid become more viscous and therefore need more pressure to operate the pedal
i dont know,.... just guessing ?Duncan

Well well, you don't say.................
I am aware the starter button is not a strain gauge but a make / break (I have a degree in electronics so understand the subtle difference)
The problem was the switch was not making contact, If you pressed very hard at the top of the button you could get it to work.
The dealer initially took the "treat the owner like an idiot" approach like you have done. I insisted I was not going to put the car in until they had a new switch in stock.
The switch as duly diagnosed to be at fault and was changed.
No problems since regardless of temperature
Perhaps you should have taken a Diploma in Manners aswell fella.MrH is one of the most helpfull users of the forum.I've never read any post by him which could be construed as derogatory or condascending. We'll just put down your rude " entre " to the forum as a once off.Personally I'd say you're cards are marked.
