Very tempted to go for this upgrade, but just wondering if it is also possible to replace the centre panel of the steering wheel (the bit with the LR logo that covers the air bag) at the same time, and if so, how much and how easy? I think the smooth leather wheel looks fantastic, but won't it be a bit odd with the old style bumpy leather centre panel?
Cheers

Hi gatters tlo can get you a new air bag but they ain't cheap as I looked into replacing mine as its curling on the top edge but they are the Same as the one you have now so I've not bothered.
The D4 one is Smooth Leather, and the D3 is Plastic on ALL Specs

Changed steering wheel today WITHOUT disconnecting the airbag! How? Just pop off the plastic backside before you remove the old steering wheel. Also the other controls can stay connected. After replacing the new wheel, put the back back in place.
Changed also the knob for the D4 version, much better. By the way, changing the knob including the change of the pin took me 2 minutes, without any tool (only a house key )Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE java black (in Europe)

Equally confued. Having just completed this job (with a bit of help ) I cannot understand how you could even get at the main nut securing the wheel to the car with removing the air bag let alone leave the electrics connected which are wired in front of the old wheel.......
Is this a quiz......

Cheers Mac
Good write up on the gear lever. Wonder if price has increased since you did you mod? Just wondering could you replace the old trim where the brighter chrome one is if you wished?
