Extended Warranty - Options?

Hi,

The warranty on my D3 ('07 TDV6 SE) is due for renewal in February. Land Rover are quoting me £780-00, or £890-00 with Land Rover Assistance.

I'd like to keep the vehicle covered, but these prices sound a little steep! Has anyone used any other supplier for an extended warranty?

The D3 has done 44,000 miles, full LRDSH, etc...

I have mine covered with Car Care Plan £469 for the year. I do get a good price through the Civil Service Motoring Association.

CCP used to run the Tesco one, and most excellent they were too! flatline do you have a link to the CSMA policy/sales bit??

Got my 2 with Warranty Direct, they have been very good as well. Key thing they cover (and paid up on) is wear & tear, how many times have we heard "sorry sir, not covered as wear & tear!"?

Thanks for the replies - DSL I don't have the CSMA link, so that would be handy if you have it Thumbs Up

I did have cause to claim on my Land rover warranty earlier this month, when the Parking Sensors started playing up. My experience through Guy Salmon in Bristol was a good one - the vehicle was booked in for a diagnostic to identify the problem, and at the time I made it clear that I was only happy for any necessary repairs to be carried out if it could be done under the warranty (the thinking being that I could get me tool-box out and do it myself if it were not covered).

Fortunately the cause of the problem was identified as being covered by the warranty - I did wonder at the time that from their perspective it was good to keep me on-side as a Land rover customer, not just a warranty policy customer - would I have received the same service at an independent with Warranty Direct or similar?, I'll never know!

I am slightly put off by some of the stories I've read here of people having to haggle with WD, then clashes over what was agreed verbally over the telephone, and then what occured when a claim was made - my recent experiencewith Guy Salmon highlighted that with a 'Land Rover' warranty it's a one-stop trip, with the dealer perhaps more interested in keeping me on-side as a customer.

A difficult call though, with the likes of WD wear-and-tear appears to be covered, whereas with a Land Rover policy it's not - but then I'm not sure that wear-and-tear should be too much of a concern, the D3 only has 44,000 on the clock, and only likely to rise another 7-8000 over the next 12 months - so I guess I'm leaning more toward the Land Rover option.....

FL, don't think that the LR warranty is an extension of your 3 year warranty, it's not! It's a CCP insurance policy that has restrictions and exclusions that would be covered by the manufacturer's warranty. I've heard the cheaper LR warranty (select??) described as a "bog roll" policy many times, other one is a bit better. Unfortunately if you want everything to be covered by a warranty like a new car you have to only run these til 3 years. I've also seen the posts re WD not paying for thus part or that part, but that's the same for other warranty suppliers, though it's not my experience with 2 x WD policies that I'll hopefully renew in May. Ya pays yer money etc. I tend to think of these warranties as covering the big things like engine or gearbox, extras they cover is a bonus. I dont run a hanger queen like D3s without having to pay something to keep them going, unfortunately these are expensive mistresses with expensive tastes!

PS 44k on a D3 is moving into that area where bushes fail left, right and centre, along with turbos! I had most of those relaced by LR & Tesco, cost an arm and a leg but not to me! Dealers are well used to dealing with warranty companies (like CCP for the LR one, WD, Warranty Wise, etc) and if they say they don't it's their loss as they get retail rates, nit the slashed rate that LR pay to fix whatever they haven't fitted in the factory.

I went for the Land Rover warranty. Its expensive, but works so far Very Happy
Front door lock and wiring loom Thumbs Up
EGR valve next week Thumbs Up

So, Land Rover Warranty, purchased from a Land Rover main dealer, repaired by same dealer
If it's bust, Censored mend it. No problems

Paying by instalments so any time the warranty does not work the payments wont work either

LR approved Warranty

I have just taken out the LR approved Warranty.
The all singing and dancing one at £890 Big Cry but I feel safer with it.
1hr before the phone call to renew the gear linkage went so I wasn't going anywhere, 30 min later and a LR man outside with the right tools , is was back on the road in 1 hr.

D3 has now covered 44,000 and is 4 yrs old.
