If that is aimed at me then what do you want, a forum of little following each other? I am entitled to my view and honest opinion, a link was posted to review, I looked, you have my view, so take it or leave it.
Have a great weekend
I wholeheartedly agree with this. Too many people on here ready to pounce on anybody new or not agreeing with them and their little band of brothers
The forum in general is excellent though but nowhere near as friendly as its brother and sister sites

Not seen GN protectors in person, but had a 'feel' and 'kick' at RLD's on a few members cars and if it's what you need for practicality to protect your sills then they are more than up to the job. Subtle and work as designed.
Also seen a lot of side tubes on D3's get squished on gentle lanes as well as the OEM side steps. If you plan on anything where the ride height is going to be tested then tubes are a waste of money as there is a hign chance of damage and when they are dinged they are not repairable.

It's a lot more active forum than the associated sites with quite a few more members, and with that there has been a lot of history and quibbles over the years which will always pop to the fore with individuals.
I see all sides and have, I admit, got frustrated at certain posts and more importantly context which can come across in a different light that was meant by the OP.
The forum as a whole has lost a lot of it's character over the last couple of years with prominent posters (old timers) simply walking away when the trivial nonsense started. They wholeheartedly supported the forum and went out their way to help/assist/organise but repeatedly got the mickey taken by some folks who abused this. There have been key moments that have triggered this and at the risk of getting myself into trouble and kicking things off I'll keep to myself.
It's also important to remember that in all forums you have the same characters...
Experienced knowledgable members who post good info
Know-it-alls who glean a bit knowledge and peddle it as their own over time (internet plagiarism of sorts)
Mickey takers who like to throw a curve ball and sit back with popcorn
idiots who grab that curve ball and run with it and never let it go
Folks in the middle who see all this and get frustrated at all sides (majority of forum members)
and the last ones are the sneaks.....who quietly pass info onto folks to get a reaction under the guise of being a do-gooder to hold moral high ground.
I hope no-one takes offence at this as that's not my intent. Any high traffic forum will have these member attributes.
Anyway enough of my blether

With regard to the side tubes - what I said earlier still holds true, but most of what has said subsequently is also valid.
They are dirt traps, you will get c p on your trousers if you are not careful.
I can't say I've noticed any reduction in ground clearance - though if they didn't protrude below the sides of the car, then the would offer no protection.
For the type of off roading I do, they are satisfactory - I wouldn't have paid for them, but at the same token, I wouldn't take them off without something else to fit.
There are plenty of different ones on the market, from both forum sponsors/supporters and other places. Not all will suit everyone, given the choice and disposable cash, I know which ones I would get, but that is irrelevant.
It's a bit like the Nikon/Canon debates. Pointless. Mark.

Well, all I can say is that, after much umming and ahhing, I went for a slider/step combo. These are due to arrive next week, so although I can't yet make any comment about them from direct experience, I will now not hear anything said against them 2001 D2 GS (I must be mad!)
2005 D3 S 10-12 (gone and missed)

so what was that bit you kicked back into place this afternoon... The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...
Club "yes, I too have had the EGR's replaced..."
Club "yes, I too have had the compressor replaced..."
Club "yes, I too once had the car at the dealer for a couple of weeks nearly 4 weeks over 4 weeks...5 weeks"
Club "yes, I too have had EPB failure..."
Club "yes, I too get mysterious bings and bongs..."

oh and just to add - I also have RLD sills. Great bit of kit. Side steps etc are not for me simply because I would have broken them by now... The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

That was the plastic lower door trim. It was pulled off the door when I had to alight from my vehicle in a narrow lane because the driver in front of me was having difficulty overcoming a minor obstacle. It ended happily, though - I advised him to switch DSC off and engage low range and not be afraid of using the loud pedal a bit more. After that he was fine.
