Guy Trout Sheffield - Surely I can do better? |
|
I have taken the car, mostly, down to Guy Trout in Sheffield. To be fair, I'd been quite happy with them for a while - but on the last few occasions they've not just been bad, they've been bloody hopeless. The last 3 times I've taken it there it's been a nightmare. First time - had the car all day - didn't do a thing to it. Not even fix the broken ashtray. Zilch. Second time they did approximately half the jobs (and they had it for 2 days). Third time was when I took it back to get the jobs finished that they didn't do the second time - and even then they didn't do it properly.
Example:
A simple thing right - the horn not working properly - only blowing single tone. They said it would have took in water and would need a new horn unit. Of course, they didn't have one in stock. So, another visit later to get it fixed.
I dropped into the service dept and they said, we'll fix it while you wait! (Great! but I'd already been waiting 3 weeks if you take into account it should have been done when I first booked it in - anyhow...). They took the car into the service area - half an hour later it comes back. "All done" they said. I jumped in - pressed the horn - still single tone! The lad on reception lifted off the grill - and there was the new horn unit - with one of the terminals not coupled up! Sloppy? I think so.
And using the wrong size wheel brace/locking wheel nut and shearing the nut? Oh yes. All in a day's work for Guy Trout.
You know what - when they do a service or something simple like that, they get their switchboard to phone you up and ask you afterwards if you are happy with their service. But if it's a bloody pigs ear of a job like the 3 previous occasions that I refer to - they don't phone you at all. Obviously, they only want good feedback for their records. Well, I hope one of them is reading this - because they are appalling and I will never take my car there again.
So, where do I take it then?
People tell me there are independent Land Rover specialists around the country. Anyone know of such an outfit within 30/40 mile radius of the Steel City? Don't take me too seriously. I may be joking.

DerbyTup try Gordon Lamb Land Rover in Chesterfield, they have always been spot on for me
I have used Guy Salmon in Sheffield for occasional warranty work (as I used to work virtually opposite them) for my old TD5 D2 but every time my car went in it was damaged somehow - I ended up taking this up with the manager and was promised that they would sort the problems out and would I give them another chance - not likely!
There is also an independant in Chestefield (can't remember the name) but I wouldn't bother with them as I had bad experience with a D1 - overcharging, said parts were needed when they had only just been replaced and charging for work covered by the warranty! 1996 Discovery 1 300TDI ES Biarritz Blue, sold
1999 Discovery 2 TD5 ES Rioja Red, sold

I agree with Bodsy, Its very easy for companies standards to slip and do nothing about it, it takes a lot for a company manager to come on here and try and rectify issues. Al lesson to ALL LR dealers could be had here
