Hi,
My Discovery will be 2 years old in March and up to a giddy 15,000miles
I have been quoted £580 which the dealer freely admits is open to price matching. Was wondering what might be a realistic price to pay...
Thanks

For our 30K service was quoted £489.54. Then after asking for discount got down to the £451.
Not much but better than a kick in the teeth.
Local indy said they would do it for around £260. But I am weak and having the LR stamp in the book eases my conscience.

For 60k - same spec service, I was offered £480, then £460 as a price match. For some reason they gave me a voucher at last service for £299 guaranteed - apparently was supposed to be service plan people only - so they did it for £299 no questions.
Just proves, if they are willing to do that, then the margin on servicing must be ridiculous.

Just had a quote from my local dealer, Lancaster of Reading, for £498.79. Ouch! Can't even get a pint with the change from £500 to numb the pain!
Have to do it though to protect the warranty I guess!

considering it only costs £70 plus oil for materials to do a full service, if they are charging over £400 plus, then they must spend 3 hours doing it with a labour rate of £100 per hour.
aye right.....
They take about 1 to 1 and 1/2 hour, and remember it only takes 30 mins to check your brakes and suspension bushes etc to gain more business by charging you another £440 for front or back disks and pads......and the rest......
They are having a at us.

I did my own last time. Oil filter and sump plug, air filter, pollen filter, fuel filter plus fully synthetic Castrol all for about £110. You can download a service schedule and most of the items are "inspect". Changed the brake fluid as the car was 4 years old. Just had an MOT and all the bushes/track rod ends etc were fine.
If you need discs/pads then Bodsy's Brake Bible will save you a small fortune. Looking forward for the 105K service when I'll be doing the belts myself.

You can use any VAT registered independent garage and this will not invalidate your warranty. There is no need to use a LR dealer. I use TFC, and he's superb. PAGODA
