Yes, your right about the sensor being only on one wheel. From an engineering perspective I can understand why that's a sensible thought, but from a practical perspective there's a lot of assumptions bring made!
Having just read the brake Bible I feel confident enough to change whatever pads need changing (if they do need a change), so long as I can find suitable axle stands.

To eliminate the sensor, cut the wires to the sensor (from the sensor lead) and join them together. 2013 RR Vogue SE SDV8

Just a thought (and resurrection of an old post...). If I removed the relevant sensor wire, would that stop the warning & 'ding'?
I'm grateful for the warning, but with a low number of miles to do before I had time to get the pads replaced, I don't want to be reminded every 30 seconds....
And SHMBO is bound to panic if she sees the warning
I suppose I could go and check myself, but it's just started raining...
After a few miles, the annoying intermitteent 'ding' has disappeared, to be replaced with a constant amber on the dash. I'm guessing the random interruptions was due to the sensor intermitently being caught as the disc was wearing through. A hundred or so miles later and the intermittency has disappeared, so no longer annoying, but remains useful with the warning light on the dash. Interestingly (for me) the 'tick-tock' of the indicators got muted to make way for the 'ding'. Whodathought!
I'll check pads all round later today, hoping I don't need to remove road wheels to do so.
