FBH different approach.

I have been undecided for months as to which route to take to get my FBH to be manually controlled. I have had FBHs on three previous Discoverys and all were on the oval timer. No hassle. I was talking to an auto electrician last week who has not worked on D3s but he tells me that there is an upgrade kit available from Webasto Part No 42K192B (kit- up grade parking heater) at a price of £182 and then 4 to 5 hours work to fit. Is this an alternative and seemingly expensive route to sort out the FBH?

Hi Thub

Have you got anymore information? I would like to know what the kit does over and above the oval timer.

Cheers

Matt

looks like it just plugs into the FBH directly, anyone know if it will work with the disco3?

On the OEM installations, the heater is controlled through the display system of the radio (the high-end radio with the navigation system). If you also order an integrated phone system with your VW, it is possible to phone the car, press a few buttons on your phone, and either turn the heater on or program a start time from a remote location.

why haven't LR offered that as OEM ie the phone setup or do they but nobody ordered it!!

The VW kits will not work with non VW supplied FBHs, as they chatter in a slightly different dialect over the WBUS.

sorry I guess I didn't word it correctly,
IF VW can offer a setup from the factory with integrated phone and FBH (if the systems ordered)

why hasn't LR; instead you guys are finding it all and setting up!!

There must be a reason they withdrew this functionality with the Enhancement Programme Rolling Eyes

(and why there are so many threads on different -and cost effective- ways to add it back, or in fact enhance it) Thumbs Up

danhag.de does a combined GSM receiver wbus converter plus controller for the blowers / vents for €319.00. Theres a group buy so may be cheaper. Use openAlarm app on your android phone to schedule heating times, as many as you want, not just the 3 on the oval timer.

I bought that Webasto kit back 2007, it is for cold climate countries. It is basically the oval timer with a mounting bezel and a pre wired loom. It doesn't do anything more than just fire up the heater, doesn't control the fans and the car still has to be asleep.

If you look in my gallery I scanned in the instructions. Fitting time is only an hour, no way is it 4-5 hours. The wiring takes 15-20 minutes to route it, plus a few connections and drilling a hole for the timer to mount to the courtesy light cluster.

It is cheaper to just buy a timer and wire it yourself.

I paid £137 inc VAT back in 2007.
