The entrance is usually about £5 for a car. But in fact you can walk in free if you park outside. The favoured date is Saturday the 16th July. Better slow down or Gareth will be upset.

Shocked

I've just looked into this, and it's now £20 for up to two people per vehicle, or £30 for three or more

You are joking. Leave it with me, I will speak to the management. Not promissing anything, but £20 Shocked having a laugh. I know that if you park outside you can walk in for free, I do.

I know !!

And a couple of half decent bottles of red too !

BUT we have to meet up so I guess its park outside and sneak in... or as we all have 7 seats we take one car in and split the cost.

Rights of Way and Green Lanes

Simon,

in answer to your earlier question about finding out about green lanes in your area. Contact your County Council and ask for the 'rights of way officer'. Better still pay a visit and ask to see the difinitive maps. if you take along your own OS Maps (I assume you have these Rolling Eyes) and you can mark these up with what are legal rights of way.

Also check out http://www.glass-uk.org/

There is a lot of opposition to greenlaning so we should all make sure we have done our research and known that we are not breaking the law. If we don't then this will help the 'anti's' win there case and our right to drive green lanes will be lost forever.

PS that's how it is in Switzerland!

martin4x4, sadly my experience with the Highways Agency and BOATS is not too good. They are obliged to sign greenlanes, but when the act was made, there was no time limit placed for the deadline on signs, hence the lack of. Also they are worried as are the farmers that travellers would be a big problem, so it is difficult.

Anyone can ask for the details of greenlanes and even use the authorities computer if available, but unless you know exactly what your looking for it is not easy.

Fortunately GLASS is just up the road from me and that is possibly the best for anyone. Unfortunately, these lads are a bit keen with their Bowlers etc and it is quite difficult for a novice in a shiney D3 to accompany them. The vehicle would cope, but the paintwork would not.

In LRM there are trips organised with Impala, they do a Wiltshire greenlane trip that is non damaging, it sounded quite good, does any one know anything of them?

Belated answer

Brian,

It's true that the signing of BOATs etc. does depend on the local county council and this does vary from one to the other. My experience in Norfolk is that the county council does a fairly good job.

Regardless of the signing the CC's have to maintain the Difinitive maps.

A few years ago I was interested in bridleways and BOATs for cycling. (You cannot leagaly ride a cycle on a footpath!). I went along with my OS maps and marked these up based on their difinitive maps. So, yes, you need to know the area and what type of rights of way you are looking for.

During my cycle trips I found cases where the rights of way were blocked in various ways and a call to the council reporting these was always well received. In some cases even acted upon!

Martin4x4 thanks for that, you are dead right. There are a lot of rights of way, so I think a chat with GLASS would be better than doing it myself as they have the data.

Impala are a company like many others I think Pelyma. If you attend Billing you will find all the clubs and associations, such as GLASS etc there.
