Battery Charging I'm Confused?

G'day All,

I have just bought a new battery (Genuine LR 950amp) and am confused about whether its Calcium or Lead or both?

The guy in the shop said it was ready to 'go' out of the box and wouldn't need charging but if it did need charging at some point I will need a special charger for it as its Calcium. On opening the box it has a big label on the side displaying a cross thro a dustbin and a big 'Pb' indicating Lead?

Could anyone please clarify and would it be ok to charge with a Ctek XS7000 charger?

Many thanks

Div

Lead calcite ISTR. Changed mine last year, installed it straight out the box & no problem. If it was me I'd just bung it in. Thumbs Up

Thanks DSL, went on today fine.

The next question - charging the battery in situ on the car with a Ctek charger. Would there be any problems encountered with the Traxide system? Would it confuse the charger? How would the system/ Optima YT react?

The technical info for the charger says there is a different charging mode for batteries such as the Optima?

Anybody any ideas - maybe one for Drivesafe?

Ctek Traxide charging

About the charging of the Traxide combi. I disconnect the batteries before charging. What i do is disconnect the minus (-) wire from the Traxide box. This way the relais disconnects the two batteries. I'm planning to install a switch is this wire.

@Drivesafe: is this the way to go?

Fired an email off to Drivesafe. Tim said there should be no issue, just connect to the cranking battery and both batteries will charge as required.

I just connect my charger (CTEK) to the main battery and switch it on (or the secondary battery and do the same).

Been in conversation with Ctek also today which got far too testicle for me but I think we agreed it should be fine once I explained how the Traxide system works, sort of?!
