http://www.4x4prejudice.org is a helpful site that ets out the 4 and against 4x4 debate pretty clearly and debunks many of the anti 4x4 myths.
One point that has not been made clearly enough is the additional saftey a high seating position gives. This not only allows you to see well ahead but also gives a far better view of children who may run out from behind parked cars. Disco 4 TDV6HSE

The 'ego' comment from GP really says it all. Forget any environmental argument....it's just a construct for venting envy, pure and simple. If it was anything else 4x4's really would be very low down on your list of environmental priorities. 2005 TDV6 SE Silver/Black Manual + Alpine
