I've just got my 05 D3 HSE.
Everything seems spot on with it appart from the cruise control doesnt seem to want to work. I'm sure it worked on the test drive although I never noticed the light come on the dash.
From reading threads in here it seems like it could possible be a switch problem or a clock spring problem. I also read somewhere in here if its the clock spring it is a known problem. If that is the case was there a recall on it or is there any way I can find out if it was done by landrover. If it is a known problem is a 5 year old landrover too old to get it replaced by the dealer?
Finally (and sorry for so many questions) if it is the clock spring or switches is it an easy and cheap self fix or is there anyone in the South Yorkshire area who can be recommended to look at it?
The dealer I bought it off says he will have his mechanic look at it but to be honest if I can get a land rover dealer to do it I would prefer it.
Thanks for any info

Im near Sheffield so Stocksbridge isnt too far away, and it would be a good excuse to go for a drive too
Just found out the remote buttons for the stereo dont seem to be working either. Im wondering if its a programming thing. The ones on the steering wheel work though.

if yer buttons for the radio dont work its more than likely that its yer clock spring.
doug dransfield is the place i couldn't remember the name of, never used em so i cant comment what they are like. they are on the hill side above stocks bridge top side of the bypass.

Thanks Ill try and locate them just in case i need their services.
The buttons that arent working are the other remote buttons in the back seat, or at least they dont seem to be. Having said that if I plug a headset into them I can alter the volume in the headset. The mode buttons in the back do nothing, or at least dont seem to. The buttons on the wheel work fine appart from the cruise control.

Hi Bob A run out would be fab , but at the moment i am keeping the d3 on a wing and a prayer and running it on a shoestring so other than the required journeys, swmbo to work etc, we dont have the diesel for extra curriculum activity.
hope the d4 goes ok, i would probably take a photo of the guy taking the xf at the same time with a date time stamp on it.

Bonehead,
Depending upon which side of Sheffield you are, I can thoroughly recommend Cavendish Motors (fully authorised LR independent) at Chesterfield.

Im east of Sheff on the Doncaster side. Chesterfield woldnt be a problem to get to other than Im working away most weeks.
What I need is for someone to tell me what is wrong with it then I will try and fix it on a weekend. It is my only mode of transport.
I'd take it to Stratstone in Doncaster but my next door neighbour has a new Freelander and has had some really bady experiences witht hem. I dont want to get my leg lifted.
Im wondering if someone can scan it and tell me what is wrong or if it is the clockspring and it is covered by the service bulletin someone who is prepared to swap it whilst I wait.
Once I know what the fault is the dealer I bought it off will pay to get it fixed or let his mechanic to do it, I am just concerned that if I take it back where I got it from it will take them ages to fault find it not having the relevant electronics to talk to it.
A lot to ask but time is really tight for me

Hi bonehead, i went o stratstone at donny when i bought mine, i found them rude unhelpful and uninterested. Went to Guy salmon in sheffield, they were completely the opposite.
I dont know if any dealer is perfect but they try.

I nearly bought one from them last year but wasnt impressed with the sales person.
Another thing I have noticed re the cruise control buttons, they are not illuminated at night, should they be? I wonder if this indicates a lack of power to the switch if it should be lit.

Hmm come to think of it, neither are the ones for the sound system on the wheel either.
Is there a way I can find out if the clock spring was changed under the service bulletin? Is there a phone number to call at Land Rover or do I have to visit a dealer?

The dealers have access to this info. Phone the service dept in any LR dealer, give them the reg number, or the VIN if it's had a plate change. They look it up. ____

Thanks.
I'm thinking I'll take it to a dealer and get it scanned to see if they can tell me why the cc isn't working. Hopefully it is something simple I guess they can check to see if the clock spring has been changed.
Would it be possible that the cruise control has 'turned itself off' because of another fault? Excuse my ignorance I've never owned a complicated vehiclenlike this
Once again yhanksnfor the replies so far, it's a steep learning curve butbthis site is a great help!
