For all you 'manual' D3 owners: drop it into first gear, gently take your foot off the clutch and accelerator and just steer. Great for slow moving traffic in town or bumbling along a country lane. 2004 Discovery 3 - gone

If I do that on mine (with the TR off) it'll adopt a kangaroo type motion and embarrass me, perhaps your tickover is a bit higher than mine?
When stuck in traffic I tend to put it in low range and use 3rd or 4th, much smoother than first in high range

No I do it without the TR on and without selecting Low Range - it just purrs and is as smooth as silk, perfect when the wife drives and needs to sort her make up or adjust her hair. 2004 Discovery 3 - gone

I must admit that I always did this in my previous cars normally in first and second gear, but in the disco (in first or second gear) it jumps like a kangaroo.
It is very embarrassing even more so if I have to accelerate, no matter how smooth I press the pedal the car lurches as if I just floored the pedal This is not very good in my opinion.
If I use low ratio 3rd of 4th it seems a lot better.
Are most peoples Discos smooth when driving on tickover???
Cheers

mines fine doing this.
trick is to be gentle with the clutch and let it pull its self along slowly and then let the clutch out completely.

Don't know about the Disco 3 YET.... most cars / vans / trucks i've driven will be quite smooth at tickover crawling, assuming you let the clutch out so as not to allow the revs to drop - otherwise the govenor / engine management system will forever be trying to correct an under / over speed situation due to the momentum of the vehicle
Does that make sense?

Is you wife called 'baaaaabera' per chance?
Used to work with a welsh lad, he went into a deep depression after Chernobyl and was almost suicidal after the foot & mouth fiasco - think he's moved on to goats....

Take it all back, mine will happily bumble along at a slower than walking pace in 1st high range (had a little play on the way home from work). It's a bit too slow for my normal slow points on the journey to and from work though, going to experiment with 2nd gear bumbling tomorrow, tried it briefly earlier and it seemed to work, didn't have long enough to try it out properly The End
