Part's still en-route I think...

Interestingly its reliability is improving all the time, to the point where it's now odd if it doesn't start - and that's with -10 to -15 starts in the morning (which I presume makes it harder for it to start).

Weird. It's just messing with me!

Mines not fired up for a week now and has decided to lock itself out again and thats despite fitting a new battery which I had a glimmer of hope might be the problem. Sad

Does that valve look easy enough to fit, can you do it under the bonnet?

Hi John,

Sounds like you are slowly burning off crap in the combustion chamber.

Time will tell Thumbs Up

Ian.

Cleared the lockout again - Algorithim based failure - permanent.

Fired up first time. Just been out again and nothing - component failure.

Boy is this frustrating Evil or Very Mad

It seems the longer I leave it locked out then clear it, it fires up first go but nothing thereafter?

Mmmm... I'd go as far as saying I think it may be sorted... Maybe Im speaking too soon. I was amazed when checking for faults, that it's not logged any for days, so maybe I have burnt through all the rubbish in the chamber Thumbs Up

If you're getting this issue, it seems the timer kit - to force starts, and ideally (although you can reset with the timer) a Faultmate are a great way to try and persever with it.

Oh and lots of patience...

My fbh on my 06 disco 3 was fine during the cold spell at the begining of the year but as the latest cold spell has started it has never really kicked in properly. Tried the reset by removing fuse 28 and it tried to start with a coupld of little puffs of smoke but then cut out. I read either on this post or another that someone had give it more air/oxygen by blowing down the air intake for the fbh? Just tried this tonight as it was trying to start up and it worked surprisingly. There wasnt even much smoke witch was unusual but started up lovely think ive burned my finger on the exhaust outlet but was worth it as with only 5 to 10 mins of tickover the cabin was toasty warm at last. Dont suppose it will last but its a start. Anyway any ideas why this procedure would work? It cant just be clogged up or surely it would have smoked like mad when it did kick in? Abit worried now cos have ageed to fork out £350 on the forum group buy of the danhag system so will be gutted if the fbh is inop.

Fit a timer so you can force start it (this will also allow you to reset the FBH) and maybe buy a Faultmate, which is great for other faults too and will also tell you why the FBH is not starting. Sounds like it may be clogged up. Spend a couple of weeks force-starting it every day and letting it run for 30 mins. Keep resetting lockouts. If it's bunged up, this may solve it, like it's appeared to with mine. Thumbs Up I intend to run mine once a week anyway, just to keep it from bunging up Thumbs Up

Remember folks that if you read the small print for these Webasto heaters, they recommend that they are fired every few months through the summer to lubricate the internals and burn off stale fuel. Obviously without a timer (or other manual option) this simply isn't possible for a standard D3 setup.
Let's face it, the fuel sat in the FBH came from your tank in winter, so it's winter mix fuel with all the crap in it.
I would assume (!) that adding some sort of fuel cleaning additive to the tank at the start of the sub 5C season would assist in cleaning some of the varnish and gunk that's lined the heater components during the summer months.

Has anyone tried this approach with any success? Of course for this to work the heater has to start, and so you could be left with a catch 22...

"Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."
Transgenic tomato anyone?

Think you're spot on Stapldm Bow down

Sheer belligerence with mine has got it working 100% reliably now. Reckon it took 20 hours of burning over the course of a couple of weeks to fully clear the sludge Thumbs Up

Don't know if this tip is mentioned in the thread as I haven't read it all.
Idea
I had intermittent firing on my FBH recently.
Took it down to Pete [B.A.S.] for him to do his magic.
After Pete induced firing for a few times, he recomended and took off the intake pipe from the back of the FBH and re-routed it around the front.
My intake opening now sits beside the windscreen filler bottle top.
The idea of this is for air to enter easier [when moving] than if it's at the rear.
Hopefully this should keep it clear as it's constantly being 'breathed' on.
[also makes it easier to lift and blow if required]
The D4 FBH now has the intake down the front of the FBH btw.
Mines been working without fail since.

Thumbs Up
