WHEELS/TYRE OPTIONS
can`t decide what to do. got a set of 19" rrs v sports at mo with nearly new wrangler 255/50`s, 107 load rating. these were supplied and fitted by a landrover dealer.
are they correct load rating for d3? should i be getting back to the dealer and complaining that they have put the wrong wheels/tyres on.
i am thinking of changing anyway as they look a bit small under the arches and i like the 20" stormer style and some of the kahn and overfinch rims. i would like a good all round tyre on these for 90% road use, looked at at2`s and cooper zeon ltz`s. any comments/advise on these combos????????
i also have a spare set of standard 18" wheels. i was thinking of powder coating these black and getting some more aggressive tyres for winter and getting muddy but would still be used a bit on normal roads. i was thinking goodyear mtr`s but goodyears own website rates them as 1star for road use so are they useless/dangerous on road??.
if so next best option for winter/snow/mud/wet roads looks to me like goodyear atr or cooper st or stt. what do you think and what have you got.

Wrong Load Rating, should be 111 and not 107

Hi,
im running 20'' stormers at the minute with Cooper LTZ's.
So far very happy, seem more assured in the wet and so far the light mud hasnt bothered them one bit.
No road noise either;
Heres a piccy;

spacers? did`nt know that. that`s the first i`ve heard of that on a d3 or have i not been reading up enough.
why do you need em, where do you get em and do they put any extra strain on bearings etc.

Maybe so, but at least you are in a Great position in getting them changed FOC, or reinbursment to find suitable tyres.
Beggers belief that a dealer can make a fundamental mistake on safety like this.

i should have checked earlier after all the other problems i have had with them but never thought even they would make such a major up.
i expect they`ll come up with some excuse like they did when the gear lever fell off two days after they changed the clutch or all the faults they missed on the inspection that they obviously did`nt do when i bought the car, or like when it failed the mot ten days after i bought it and they tried to charge me for four tyres etc,etc, etc,etc.....
honestly, dont EVER buy from this dealer or even visit.

The Tyres can slightly catch the top bit of the suspension.
I got a set of universal spacers from hellfrauds.
Not sure about bearing wear but I had the osf go with my boggo 18's on!!!

Part of the reason for that is that they're the wrong size too - should be 255/55. (This also means your gearing is slightly lower, your speedo is over-reading by an additional 3.5%, and your odomter is clocking up an additional 3.5% miles (over and above the normal over-read figure of course).
Doesn't mean a set of 20" stormers/ V-Spokes won't look much better tho. 8)

complained to land rover
hi, i dont know if anyone is still reading this, or even interested as it`s now changed from the original thread on tyre options to a possible legal battle with a dealer.
i thought i would let you know that i phoned land rover, eventually got a very helpfull guy in customer liason. he confirmed after speaking to the technical dept that the wrong tyres have been fitted by the dealer.
he then asked if i would like him to speak to farnells on my behalf which i obviously agreed to.
after a few phone calls it seems they are trying to wriggle out of it by saying the tyres are correct for the wheels and plenty of people fit range rover wheels to discovery`s.
i dont know if they are just stupid or as i already knew totally incompetent. these people should`nt be let loose near a 200 quid banger never mind someone`s 70 grand range rover.
i thought the customer liason chap had given up at one point but he phoned me back to say he had tried to speak to the dealer again but they were busy and he would try again tuesday morning.
i asked what he was going to say to them and he said that the tyres were wrong for the car and to sort it out before it became an issue. which it will be if they dont at least put another, correct set on.
sorry for going on a bit, cheers, andy.

Hopefully the pressure from LR will sort them out. Otherwise a quick call on your local trading standards could be of use.Rob Smith
