2011 MY Software problem 3 days old

My brand new D4's lcd started cutting out as was 100 yards from home. It happened just as the low fuel light came on. The screen flicked on and off then seatbelt warning signs came on and a ding ding warning sound. I managed to get into my drive and then couldn't restart, no lcd visible and it is going back to LR today. Not the best start to Land Rover ownership (but then I did expect problems). Anyone had similiar experiences with the 11 MY?

Is 3 days a record for a D4 going back to the dealers on a flat bed?

I would advise the Dealer Principal in writing that you reserve the right to reject the vehicle under the sale of goods act.

Just cover yourself.

Oh and ask who did the PDI?

Sorry to hear about your trouble.

This is getting worse... after promising me a RRS as a replacement, Enterprise have dropped off a Freelander! I wonder if that really counts as a replacement for a car with a massive boot. I wonder if they have run out of Minis.

Im not too sure on the legal side but you can demand a replacement car i believe.

Have a search on the forum and see what a few others have experienced.

A freelander isnt exactly customer service is it??

Mine developed a fault within 24 hours that required 11 days in the workshop to fix, but no flat bed involved - so you may have a record there.

I too got an Enterprise Freelander 2 for my trouble, with insufficient fuel to get to a petrol station! Customer service throughout the ordeal was distinctly 2nd rate and it will be a while before the experience fades from vivid memory.

I am happy to report that apart from developing a rattle from the middle rear seat, which Im about to try to fix, the car has been fault free for 3 whole weeks. Happy days

Make sure you make a complete nuisance of yourself to all involved and inspect the car with a fine tooth comb before accepting it back, particularly around the dash where they will no doubt have to work. Mine came back scratched around the centre console where the technicians had obviously put tools down. After consideration I decided that if I got them to replace the centre console, it would in all probability come back worse.

Wonder if they have not checked out the battery connections? didnt the D3 used to come with transit connections or something?

The first thing they checked was the battery terminals. They now can't even get in to the car so I'll be checking for signs of damage on the rubbers etc.

I will send them a letter telling them that letting them repair is in no way an indication that I am forfeiting my right to reject the car.

Id ring LR customer service in the morning and tell them you want a D4 car or a RRS from enterprise tomorrow and you want one untill your D4 is repaired, and you want it noted you may wish to reject the car depending on the fault found.

Stand your ground you have just spent 40k plus, why should you drive a freelander ?

They gave me a D4 HSE in the end. Today they seem to have diagnosed the problem and have ordered a replacement steering lock module. Let's see if they are right.

sorry to hear about your problem, but I dont think you need to get concerned and start thinking about rejection.

I reckon you are just unlucky.. sounds like its an easy fix and not something that would have been picked up in the PDI. They will only pick up the imminent problems if they drive a few hundred miles and then everyone would complain about the added mileage Rolling Eyes

re Enterprise car, you were lucky in that respect getting offered a Freelander. The first time had to call LRA Enterprise sent me a Nissan Micro (to carry 6 people and a tow a 7m boat Rolling Eyes ) They will always try and provide a Land Rover product if they can, but there is no guarentee

Your default position should be to reject as you have protected your rights under the consumer protection/sale of goods. My understanding is that you get 28 days for a new car but any fault that occurs within 6 months is deemed to have been there on day 1 so you get some protection from that. At the end of the day, buying a new car is a contract and both parties have rights. Unless you are feeling particularly sorry for the franchied dealer, make sure they deliver a nice car.
