Extended warranties - what's best?

Hi there
My Disco3 with 21,000 miles on the clock is three years old this coming January and therefore will be out of warranty. Has anyone used Land Rover's own extended warranty, or select extended warranty, WarrantyDirect (seem to be almost the same price as Land Rover), or any other warranty company? Any information on experience, rejected claims etc. or general incompetence would be appreciated.
Many thanks
Barry C-All

Not sure if you have this in the UK, but Ford ESP seems to be the deal here.

We called it Andrex.

Just cancelled my warranty direct - they were trying to make me jump through hoops for a reasonable claim. They are now questioning my fully stamped Land Rover main agent service history, and the final straw of trying to reject a claim for a RECON brake caliper when seals went on the old one.

TFC will sort out the steering and brakes on Friday and WARRANTY DIRECT can put it where there ain't no sun!

I know some have had good experiences with them, but to my mind part of the point is to try and remove stress and hassle. Now that I have cancelled it I may be a bit out of pocket but I'm far more relaxed and comfortable with the whole thing, and I still love my car!

Warranty Direct

Just put in a claim and awaiting payment for 2 track rod ends.... Seemed fairly straight foward. Will let you know when the cheque arrives (you pay for the repair and then claim it back).

Also....

The cover was for 15k miles annually, realised that I was going to be over that well before the year ended, contacted them and for an additional £15 they doubled my permitable annual mileage to 30K.

I'm in a similar sitation with my 3 year LR warranty up in early December. My dealer has quoted £880 with LR Assistance included and £760 without for another year, both payable over 10 months if I want to.

I also have a quote from WarrantyDirect for £535 but that includes all sorts of excesses and stuff. I gather that others manage to haggle for lots of extras, but I think they should just offer the product for a price, life's too short.. I also seem to read lots on this forum about problems getting WD to pay up. What are members experiences of the LR extended warranty? It may be worth another £200 if they pay up without arguing.

Alternatively, I recon £50 or £70 per month into a piggybank somewhere would quite quickly add up to a reasonable rainy day repair fund...I've had almost nothing go wrong for the past 2 years, so it does seem alot of money to me.

Any thoughts?

I too am just out of warranty (5months) and have been looking around. It appears that the 'fair wear and tear' clause is the insurance companies cop out.

I have now decided to put £60 a month aside in my D3 piggybank and take the risk.

Hi there,
I do not seem to be any further forward yet in determining whose warranty, if any, to purcahse. It seems WD have various levels of cover, the top one includes wear and tear, i.e. track rod ends (not brake pads etc), and the online quote seems more expensive than Land Rover, which was £880 including road side assistance.
Has anyone actually had and claimed on the Land Rover extended Warranty, and does it operate almost the same as when the car is less than three years old? Has anyone experienced any other warranty companies that could be worth approaching?
Regards

Hi Barry.

My D3 had a year's LR extended when I bought it from my local main stealer and I've had no problems claiming for door latches (3) and tailgate latch plus middle-speed CAN and even duff PTI unit! I do have a pretty good working relationship with them so that may help if they're having to push a claim?

I'm in the same boat as you as my L-R EW expires imminently. However, looking at the posts re WD, I'm leaning towrads the L-R one. Neutral Question

Sorry for the delay, got a cheque from WD after about 10 days, I got all the money back except the cost of the tracking and the £50 excess.

Would recommend them.

Barry

I have an AA warranty gold with my 2005 hse which was recommended to me by our local independent LR garage, it cost £440.00 a year and have claimed on it twice, once for a compressor and once for a suspension air bag. I just paid a £50.00 excess to my garage and they claimed the costs from the AA. Car has now done 73 k miles and although we have claimed twice they have just sent me the renewal for next year with the same premium as last year. Thumbs Up

Anyone had any experience of UVW (UsedVehicleWarranty.co.uk)? I have a quote including:

  • £0 excess
  • Main dealer repairs
  • Wear & Tear
  • Maximum repair = value of vehicle

...for £485.
