Barry, so happy with my HSE bought wife one (an S auto rather than a HSE ). No problems that have not been sorted out quickly & painlessly, once at same time as 2000 mile check & once in half hour when passing (didn't even have time to finish coffee). Excellent service from my dealer and can thoroughly recommend a D3!
I'm not being biased cause I own 2, I looked at most other 4x4s and this what suited my needs most, also the drive is superb. Many others raise the virtue of upgrading the software (chipping), I'm as happy as anything with it as is.

On a mix of rural Co.Wexford roads, and a fairly regular 25 mile journey from here to Waterford (through the middle of the city) and back a few days a week, I average 27 - 28MPG. If I go for a long run, e.g. up the N11 on cruise control all the way and on to Leitriim/Sligo on the N3/M4 I get around 32 - 34MPG. This is on a TDV6 HSE, so is auto, has all the weight of 7 seats, etc.
I assume the standard halogens are as good as halogens get, but that would never be as good as the Xenon lights. I was thinking of getting a commercial initially, and Xenons would have been a must have on the list, along with air suspension. I wasn't so sure about the leather seats though, as it's done by the dealer/sub contractor, and you end up with the same seats covered in leather. It's a good job (a friend got it done to his), but I'm not sure if it's really worth the money. If I had to get a commercial, I probably would have waited and bought 2 HSE seats from a breakers or something to put in.
The auto is magnificent, way better than the autobox that was in my old TD5. I honestly don't know how someone could choose a manual once they take the auto for a test drive. Everyone I know with a D3 has the auto.
Anyway, no matter what you specify, it'll be far better than the competition can do!

I have an S and Manual gearbox, main reason for going for the manual is the MPG consumption and the flexibility. Disco is a very solid vehicle, and mechanically very sound. Disco was launched 6 month too early, and at the early stage of release, only 20% of vehicles pass the quality test (electrical and software related issues mainly). This reflects on some of the user feedbacks from diffrent forums. But today's Disco is very different since most of the niggle and issues has been addressed at the factory. So, go for it.

You'll be a happy bunny when U get yours! Just think of all the dusty places you can head to. Have half day LRE trip next week & LRO show offroad course in couple of weeks and that is my fix for a while.
Don't forget the pics when U get yours.

Ah but you will be even happier. As old Japanese proverb says:
Happyness is a face showing permagrin! (or is that a cigar called Hamlet, I forget!) 8)

Thanks for all the replys but keep them coming.
Thanks for the offer BarryG, I drove the Manual about two weeks ago (demo model from dealer), and thought it was good, but I am doing a huge amount of Kmilage (possible over 1300km a week) so don't want to play with a gear leaver all the time.
Last Saturday I drove the VW Tourag, the Landcrusier and finally the LR D3. The VW and the LR had auto boxes.
The LR also had the Air Sus. I must admit I thought the auto box gave me theright amount of accellaration and the air sus stoped any significant body role.
I must admit the LR is in the lead by a good measure, looks, stability (air susp.) drivability. Plus the others are kinda getting old technology now and are possible due for replacement??
I am mainly going to be driving from Tralee to Limerick/Kilkenny rest of country, so - as you say you know the type of roads I am on about.
Thanks for the offer of a test drive, but I reckon I got enough to make a decision. (Just gotta talk to my Accountant now to make sure I can afford it )
I take on board about the leather seats as the other posted says, I don't want an 'in between' job done.
I must admit the price of oil is starting to frighten me
Just glance at the fourm at work - so will re read later tonight to reply to others in the thread.
Thanks again and kepp the tips comming.
