England 2005 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Manual Galway GreenDiscovery 3
Go on Scare me!

I have just put down a deposit on a 2005 55 Disco 3 SE with a good spec and thought I would now scare myself with the common known faults.
It is a manual and has 41k on it. Leather, Sat Nav, Parkiing sensors, Tow bar.
Any hints or tips most welcome.
I have previously had Rangies (P38 & L322) and also have a 1957 Series 1 so know a bit about Land Rover, but will be here to annoy/increase my knowledge!
Thanks
Max

It was a great car, not without it's problems!
The Radiator failed on me in France, which then led to gearbox problems meaning new Box and Torque converter abit later on.
In all I loved it, bit heavy on the petrol, but I wasnt using it for long distances anyway.
Comfort and waftyness was supreme.
This one is more for the missus, but will be used as it was intended by me on a regular basis.

Known faults:

Air suspension (either compressors or exposed wiring causing faults)
EGR's
Tail light bulbs blowing causing multiple psudo error codes on the dash (plus christmas lights)
Manual Clutch's are expensive to replace and some of the 2005 cars had a recall to fix a weakness.

Apart from that they're GREAT Thumbs Up

Loving my 2005 D3... just made the mistake of test driving a D4... Big Cry

Is there any way to check if my clutch has been upgraded? or is there a VIN checker for affected cars.
I ma hoping that the warranty will cover most woes, but it can't hurt to be prepared for eventualities!
Thanks

My "company" car is due for replacement soon... and I've been given the nod to get a D4, so no point running 2 4x4's... The mrs just needs a motorway car that'll do 50mpg...

Here are some common problems:

Drain tubes for the sunroof become blocked (it's raining here now so my carpet is probably being watered as I write this).

Coolant sensor goes toes up.

Fog lamps short out.

Steering wheel goes sticky.

Paint wears off from the lettering on the bonnet.

EPB screams.

Everything was fixed under warranty And TBH I cleared the sunroof drain tubes yesterday so my carpet should be dry. It may seem like I had a lot of problems but not really. Think of the thousands of parts that have to work properly and my average for problems is very low.

I'm loving my D3 Very Happy

SNIP

I'm not aware of the recall.

BTW, while only at 70,000 km (43,500 miles) I'm still on the original clutch in my 2005 D3.

Best Wishes,
Peter
