It wouldn't be a 3.0L then unless the bore diamerter was changed as well. Only different software I suspect.

Not yet - only test mules about with the oil burner donk. I doubt a crank would be available through Ford for a while yet.

Hi all,
Thanks for all the input and pics of cranks!!
Local indy has had a look and listen and his initial thoughts are it is possibly a top end noise and maybe injector related. Apparantly on test book one injector is peaking at over 1400 and thats not good.
He is off for a knee op this week but his team are gonna pull the rocker / cam cover on that side and see what they can find.
Here's hoping. I'll keep the forum informed.
Cheers,
Matt

The old girl is on her third engine...
* first ran a bearing (design failure in original engine)
* second had a failure of the water outlet on top of the engine (pls check yours)

I seem to remember, someone in Ireland ordered the D3 with the 2.7L engine and they changed to the detuned 3.0L and his was delivered with the detuned 3.0L engine. Others were offered the 3.0L standard tune FOC when they changed but he was told his had to go back to factory to change it as the manifold is different.
Can't find the post though. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Right -
The 2.7 crank was NOT changed when the 3.0 (Eu5) crank was created.
The 3.0 crank has larger webbing than the 2.7 (giving it larger mass)
Am unsure of any dimensional changes at the moment, but there's nothing major. Disco 5 HSE Lux

Title TDV6 (2700cc) Short Engine Replacements
Last Modified 30-SEP-2009 16:35
Category Engine
Symptom 499000 Basic Engine
Content
Issue:
A concern has been identified when replacing a short engine assembly applicable to TDV6 (2700cc) derivatives of Discovery and Range Rover Sport. The crankshaft fitted to the 2700cc TDV6 engine is now the same as the crankshaft fitted to the new TDV6 3000cc, introduced at 2010MY.
Action:
When a 2700cc TDV6 short engine is required (part number LR010297) it is therefore possible you may now receive a short engine with the new type crankshaft fitted (3000cc version). The difference being that the crankshaft bolt which attaches the crankshaft gear to the nose of the crankshaft is a different size. It is therefore important that the thread size is checked prior to fitment of the bolt. If it is found that the size required is M16 then a new bolt must be ordered, part number LR013377. The old type size was M14, but as the pitch size is the same for both bolts (1.5mm) the M14 bolt will fit the new type crankshaft but it will be very loose.
If it is found that the M16 bolt is required then the crankshaft gear must also be changed (use part number LR005996) as it requires a larger clearance hole for the M16 bolt.
Procedure for replacing a short engine on 2700cc derivatives can be found in Global Technical Reference (GTR) under section 303-01C - Engine - 2.7L Diesel.
Repair Times
Discovery
12.41.04 – Short engine assembly (2700cc) – renew – 22.20hrs (Automatic Transmission)12.41.04 – Short engine assembly (2700cc) – renew - 21.70hrs (Manual Transmission)
Range Rover Sport
12.41.04 - Short engine assembly (2700cc) – renew – 21.20hrs

I thought that was the case.
Understood it was changed earlier though. MY08? “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Does this not relate to the 2010MY 2.7 ? Possibly a running change for parts normalisation ?

Disco stu said it wasn't changed then. Maybe earlier and all under one part number now? “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Right, facts established:
The 2.7 Crank is different from the 3.0 Crank. It has larger webbing (I'll post a couple of pics later), the end bolt diameter is different and , more crucially, the throw of the crank is different by 1mm.
The 2.7 is not, and never has been, built with a 3.0 Crank. In fact, if the 2.7 were able to take a 3.0 crank why would Ford bother building two variants?
Guess work:
Short engines are not supplied direct by Ford, they are usually rebuilt/reconditioned units - If "Title TDV6 (2700cc) Short Engine Replacements" is correct is it possible they are supplying 3.0 short engines whether its fitted to a 2.7 or a 3.0? Disco 5 HSE Lux
