Car door hinge and door F*&ked |
|
Gday all,
I was away down the snow on the weekend and my GF opened the passenger door as she was getting out the wind caught the door and swung it all the way open.
When she closed it i heard a klunk type noise.
I went around top look at the door and the top hinge is bent drastically to the point of the door scraping the front quarter panel/bonnet.
It has taken the paint back to bare metal to which you can see the very thick layers of paint.
I find this very dissapointing thing the car would be alot stronger than it is.
I have had Holden Commodore utes, Mercedes Vito vans, Toyotas etc and never experienced this before.
Has anyone else experienced this.
If not be very careful of opening doors in the wind or on really steep slopes.
Guess I will have to spend $650 on an excess and hope they put back even half the amount of coats of paint that Landrover do... Disco 4 SE

Worth trying to see if the opening stop bar or fixing of, on the door failed. If it looks like it did then try claiming it under warranty.
Wind can rip off doors completely of it is strong enough but I have never heard of damage like that on a D3/4. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Hi blade,
I think that you have been bloody unlucky.
Pay the $s and get it properly fixed.
Best Wishes,

The check strap is plastic...
The repair cost is $2000 which involvles repainting the door and maybe inside of bonnet and front quarter.
LKuckily claiming on insurance for $645
Parts are actually cheap. Hinge $30 and check strap $20.
If it didnt bend enough to chip paint you could replace parts easy and cheap. Disco 4 SE
