20" Range Rover Stormer Alloys - Tyres

Hi,

I've just got a set of 20" Stormer alloys for my Disco 3. I intend to use them for blasting up and down motorways with a good set of road tyres (currently got Cooper Discoverer S/Ts on giving me 26 MPG on 17" 5 spokes).

Has anybody got on any thoughts on good quality tyres to help with keeping money in my wallet and not emptying it into BP/Shell/Esso etc

Perhaps looking at Michelin, Continental, General Grabber etc.

Kind regards,

Glenn

Hi Glenn,

I had this dilema a while back, and there aren't many 20" tyres available in the correct D3 size and an adequate load rating:

I ended up trying some Hankook Ventus ST's (295/45R20 114) on my 20" wheels and I've been pleasantly suprised by the handling, comfort and economy. They even performed reasonably well off-road.

I'd normally go for something a little more premium, and had originally lined up a set of Continentals - however the Conti's received pretty poor reviews compared to the Hankooks, and when you consider the Continental UHP is twice the price of the Hankook I decided to take a gamble.

Some other forum members run slightly different sizes like 285/50R20 (Cooper LTZ - looks awesome) - and I was a bit disapointed that I couldn't find a Michelin or Bridgestone in the right size too.

Hope this helps

Simon

I do alot of business miles which includes high percentage of Motorway use - running on General Grabber UHP and have not seen any detriment to MPG , handling etc...... Still returns circa 31 mpg on a good run

Thumbs Up

I agree with Simoniz, i've been on General Grabbers for the past 3 years & they are a great road tyre & they don't seem to have any noticeable effect on MPG. Only problem could be getting hold of them, when i changed mine earlier this year i had problems finding them in stock at a sensible price.

Highly recommend them if you can find them (i paid about 165 a corner i think)

General Grabber UHP a fantastic road tyre.
[ran contis and didn't like]

Cooper LTZ [best tyre for me] for on/off road.
