I'm going to look at a D3 and the owner tells me one of his kids broke off the Terrain selector knob, leaving a broken plastic shaft. Can anyone tell me if this is an easy fix or the usual frightening process!

I'm not to sure about the Knob, but it would really make me wonder how much care has been taken of the car in general.

I'm sure TLO said earlier that the knob was not available as a seperate part, it comes as a complete unit. Best double check with him.
Me too, it's cheap and there must be a reason, but kids fingers can get everywhere..Make the most of this life, you may not have a Landy or skis in the next one.

Whilst it may be true about kids' fingers getting everywhere, no way could that be the reason - more like a shod foot when scrambling over the cubby box between the front seats, as they can't be arsed to use the rear doors.Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana
There speaks a man with experience. I was always led to believe that the best thing about kids was making them..Make the most of this life, you may not have a Landy or skis in the next one.

Kids are great but couldn't eat a whole one!! Dogs not sprogs is our motto.
Only problem with that is that the knackered switch may need the central tunnel bit replaced. Hate to think what a squirt of glue in the wrong place would do. Speak to Nick at YLR for what you'd need or get a price from your local stealer to replace then knock it off asking price.
Noticed when using a RRS HSE that its knob is the same - but it retracts. If I was having to changing mine, I'd go for that now as a useful function. ( Not that I allow dogs or children or people to climb between the seats, especially not using the vehicle controls as a foot-hold. )A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.
Yep, that's what I did. Frank Ogg's at Elgin, good reputation and very helpful.. Knob and base bit includes the two switches either side (I can't remember what they do..) and costs £116 plus VAT and I guess a couple of hours labour.. It's nags with us.. You can leave them in a field and go to work on them when the Disco breaks.. Can't get Tesco to put up a hitching rail though.Make the most of this life, you may not have a Landy or skis in the next one.

Frank Ogg's good choice, though even I managed to remove mine to fit fridge.
I, and many others, can get the centre console out in 5 minutes, so don't get fobbed with huge labour costs. You could even do it yourself. See instructions to fit the cubby-box cooler.
Also, someone, somewhere, wants to buy the other two switches, so get the removed panel and stick it on here.A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. Well, I was thinking of the price as a negotiating point rather than actually getting it fitted.. After errr, ooohh, 18 Landys including two chassis-up rebuilds (not D3's!!) I may manage it myself.. Praps..Make the most of this life, you may not have a Landy or skis in the next one.

Remember if car's over 3 years you need to ask for your Alligence discount (10% or 15%, can't remember which). It's a case of don't ask, don't get.
It's all changed now - forget nuts and bolts, think Lego!A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.
