B+E licence qual reqd - Andover area |
|
I passed my test in 2000, my D3 and caravan now exceed the 3500kg threshold. I have been towing for a good amount of years now with a lighter rig, so I don't think too much training reqd. Certainly not the 3 day £540 course I have just had quoted.
Can anybody provide / recommend training please in my area?
EDIT: training AND test required please Captain Nick Medhurst would ask:
"What is the first rule when overlanding?"
I would Reply:

The only training you will get on your location will come from a trawler unless the site map is having a laugh

Not much help to you but I am the same. Towed allsorts since I've had licence. I did go and get my B+E though about 12 months ago. Did this because the vosa are bob on now as most people my age are just starting to tow caravans and so I thought best be save and get mine done. Few hours training and test done for 300 quid. Can now tow my caravan safe in the knowledge I am up to date. Current: D3 commercial
Past: but not forgotten D3 HSE x2, 5 TD5 disco2's, 1 200tdi disco1, 2 300tdi disco1 one of which was a commercial, Off roader with a rather large spec, ARB's and big travel suspension to name a few.

Good luck. I have had two goes at it now. I failed on very silly things like giving way at a roundabout like I was taught to do for the test. I find towing and the manouvers very easy, but I have had the same bloke test me twice and he is a complete and utter helmet which is a problem.

Dicky, did you get it all done in 1 day? Captain Nick Medhurst would ask:
"What is the first rule when overlanding?"

Bear in mind that however proficient you might currently be with a trailer, you need to be coerced back into using the "required" procedure for everything - mirror use, hill starts, hitching/unhitching etc.
Did my B+E following a 3 day course in Lancing at the back end of last year - and was glad of the time to get things right, even if with a aged 300 Tdi D1 it took forever to get anywhere
Good luck 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti
Any issues with the site let me know!

Dave, all done in a day, did some training for about 2 hrs the evening before and was at home by lunch of the day I took it. I had no minors on the road but because I did it in the trainers car, when I took off for the emergency stop run i stalled. Got one minor for that
I found the test quite easy but as Martin says, It does not matter how good at towing, its how you do the mirrors and hill starts that get you. Current: D3 commercial

I did mine a couple of years ago and it's very much learning to pass the test and get out of those bad habits of driving and do things the 'proper way'. I did mine in York, used the instructors car (FL1) and trailer at the time and he was VERY good and quite reasonable. Can dig out the details if it's any use to anyone?

This does'nt apply to me, but what year did things change, I can understand why as I remember following a car and tintent down a particular section of the M3 the guy let it runaway, started fishtailing and......yep over it went and into a million pieces...
