Just a quick question - I'm taking my D3 to france next month - Do you still need to stick stickers on your head lamps to avoid blinding on coming french Drivers? If yes do they need to special Land Rover shaped ones or generic Halfords jobs be Ok...?

Hello Surfer,

Don't think so, as xenon lights have an internal lens, and the only way is to change the direction as described.
The second thing is you will get more light on the right side of the way so imo the better way Thumbs Up

Cheers

Surfer,
Hi, I live in France (Portes Du Soleil) and am just back in the UK for 3 or 4 weeks. I have both normal UK Xenons and LHD halogens (came with the car when i bought it). Ive never had a problem with the xenons and havent altered the lens either (only because no matter how hard i looked i couldnt find it) and have never had a problem. I just use normal UK Xenons in France for 11 months of the year... No probs so far. If I were you Id just make sure you have enough flourescent vests for your passengers and a warning triangle... The Gendarmes are Censored for that and always check if you get stopped! Enjoy.

Don't forget that the vests must be accessible from within the passenger compartment - not stuffed away in the boot!

There was a rumour that spare bulbs are a requirement and also possibly a fire extinguisher.

A tip - Put at least one Hi Viz vest on the back of the drivers seat - that's what most of the french do to avoid being stopped and quized over everything else that you are supposed to carrry!

Was warned by ferry dude that a ploy by the gendarmes was to pull you over and ask you to step out of the car, you comply and they clobber you as you'll have been in too much of a rush to comply with the gun carrying plod that you've not put on your hi viz vest INSIDE the car. 2 feet on the hard shoulder and no hi viz = hefty fine! Best rule is one per person in the car and vests within reach, not in boot or under piles of stuff. On route down to Marseille saw a lot of cars with hi viz vest draped over passanger's or dricer'sseat back.
