How do you get ink off leather upholstery?

Gave a mate of mine a lift the other day and have just noticed that he managed to get pen ink on the passenger seat, a line of about 1 inch. Mad

Does anybody have any tips on how to get blue ballpoint pen ink off the Alpaca leather?

Any tips on what I should do with the Censored who managed to get the ink on the seat would also be appreciated.

Hairspray! Spray it on and rub with a cloth.

Test it on an out of the way place first though (I don't want to get the balme for ruining your seats)

If it's into the leather then it may be in there for good. You may be able to leach out the ink using some white spirit, but be very careful as LR leather is pigmented and as such any strong cleaner may lift the paint off your seat. Only put the spirit on the ink line nowhere else. Use a cotton bud to dab along it then a paper towels to soak it up. DO NOT RUB WITH WHITE SPIRIT

Cleaners and creams may work, but will need some rubbing and will potentially also damage your finish.

A suggestion would be do do a search for a leather technician in your area (sofa's and chairs) who will undertake the work and should only take about 10 mins. That way you will know, hopefully, that it's being removed if possible, correctly without damage to your seat.

Of course there are a load of short cuts and auld wifes tales which folk will soon advise on, but anything with alcohol/white spirit will work, but runs the potential of really making a mess.

The ink line is in a very prominent part of the seat so it will look horrendous if I have a go myself and make a mess of it so I think I will be getting in touch with a leather specialist.

Thanks for the advice.

Chancer....

I will guess that your leather is a light colour.....

I had a similar problem with light coloured Volvo leather seats (sort of light cream colour) where a wet postage envelope was placed address side down onto the seat squab....I got I mirror image of the address...

About that time we went to the Motor Show at the NEC.....Connolly leather had stand there

One of the Connolly owners told me how to get this out without spoiling the leather....
...."you need half a lemon" rub the cut face of the lemon onto the marked area....let it dry
......do the same again a few hours later....then again until the inl is lifted out"

it took about three days & about six or seven applications....but the ink marking dissapeared & the surrounding leather was unaffected......his advice was anything with leather has to be a natural substance & gentle.
 BREXIT - done properly.

It works!
Briliant, simple tip. Some numpty managed to stain my rear seat with bright pink ink yesterday.
Autoglym got rid of most of it, but left two patches that I couldn't remove. Last resort was a search on this site. After 2 goes with the lemon halves - stains completely disappeared! Bow down

I've also heard of people using a Mr. Clean Magic eraser, but you'd want to re condition after that. Smile

A little WD 40 on a cloth should work. Try it first on a hidden area to ensure no discolouration.

I was going to post a similar topic myself, but just seen this one.

I have an ink imprint on the middle headrest that came off of a carrier bag (placed under the headrest when seat was done).

Thought I had ruined it, but will give the lemon trick a good blast Thumbs Up

Last night I bought Mother's Leather Cleaner, an it is amazing. It cleaned off the blue jean stain from from the previous owner. I have pics.

Yes...they work more often than not!

One thing that I know I'm not supposed to do, but was use Clorox wipes in my Jeep. Worked like a charm! Twisted Evil
