Keys - manual entry question

Looking at getting a key blade only off that popular auction site (for about a fiver) for when I'm surfing. I don't like taking the electronic fob in with me (even in a waterproof pouch) and don't like leaving it under the car, even in a keysafe thingy. So was thinking of leaving the main key/fob in the car (well hidden) and manually locking the car with a blade only, which I can then take with me without fear of the salt water knackering the electronics.

Would this work or am I missing something here?? Shocked

Seems a reasonable course of action, but if you're not going to alarm the car, you might as well leave the fob at home rather than hidden in the car. Bear in mind that the plastic keyhole cover on the passenger side is not designed for frequent removal & replacement, so best take it off & leave it off for the season or factor in the cost of new clips/cover.

Ta - comments on plastic cover noted!

I'd need the fob to be able to drive the vehicle though, couldn't do that with just the blade... Very Happy

Really? Confused

So it would be fine after 2 hours of constant immersion in the sea?? I'd rather not find out the hard way when I get back to the car in a wetsuit, no phone etc and find I can't get into my car! Shocked

On the other hand, if you want to lend me your spare, I'll happily take it for a surf and then you can report back on how waterproof it is Whistle

We use 'Aquapac' waterproof bags for phones and keys when biking/walking/sailing - never had one leak yet, and they come in all sizes from small (will just fit small phone) to large (big enough for chunky PMR)
