Trailer Lights: LED's at fault???

Evening all,

i am borrowing a trailer from work that has LED lights, when i plug into the rear electrics the indicator lights on trailer flash dim, even though no indicator on.also no park light come on when i switch lights in disco on or brake lights. Plugged them into a transit van, and all the lights on trailer worked fine. am i right in thinking the disco is @ fault.
I have used my old mans trailer with the disco before which has non-led trailer lights, just normal bulbs and the park, brake and indicator lights all work fine! am i mssing something? I also noticed that when i use indicator i get a trailer signal in the dash with my fathers trailer but nothing with this one from work appears on the dash..

all comments welcome.

Ian.

LEDs consume a lot less power than their candescent equivalents.

When fitting the D4 LEDs to a D3, you need to add a ballast (or shunt) resistor so that the instrument pack doesn't think that a bulb has blown and start flashing the indicator lamp at double speed.

As Ken says, the same thing happens if you use a trailer with LED lamps - the D3 throws a wobbler unless you fit a shunt box.

The Transit probably just simply doesn't perform this type of control over the current drawn by the indicator lamps.

So yes...technically speaking it is your Disco at fault, but it isn't actually a fault of any kind - it's just doing what it's supposed to do Thumbs Up
