Possible front warped disk - but not sure ???
Hi all my 05 manual se has developed a weird thing when braking. Up to about 50 mph the brakes appear fine. Above 50mph the steeriing wheel wobbles violently when applying slight brake. If you brake quite hard then the wobble stops. Hard braking also gives a clunk from the front end.
Im asking for help on this as the normal things for warped disks are not happening. IE, wobble is constant and wobble depends on speed and there is no feedback from the brake pedal.
Can anyone point me in the right direction ?
Aslo - prev owner had the disks replaced in nov 2009
Thanks
Aaron

wobble that is there under gentle braking but then goes away when more pressure applied is usually down to a disc running out of true. Has it been there since you got the car, i.e, did previous owner have the same issue. This is the symptom I had when I fitted non genuine discs on the front of my old D3. Replaced with genuine, problem gone.
Is everything tight - caliper bolts etc, as this could be the cause for the clonk

it has only just started to happen to be honest. I am going to be checking it over tonight and making sure the ARB bushes are ok and that all bolts are tight etc.
Looked at the receipt and I think the disks that were fitted are genuine so ???

Had this on way back from Tunisia last year, thought EPB, warped disk, wheel weight off etc etc. Turned out to be partially seized on brake caliper and was sorted under Tesco warranty.

Fraid not, took it in & said it's doing this, they said it was the caliper and fixed it. Don't know details but as non-techie most of it is too easily forgotten, esp if I'm not paying.

I would check the lower control arm bushes as well - this may be where the clunk is coming from.
Is steering a little vague sometimes, and does she tramline?

Change the whole lower arm as it comes with all the bushes fitted. Much easier than trying to mess about with each Bush change.Bodsys Brake Bible

Maybe they'll do an exchange for you?
They have been done, but you'll be talking of a whole day of bush pain rather than a couple of hours of relatively easy changeover.
It's the bolts that corode on more than anything else. They end up having to be cut off.......Bodsys Brake Bible
