Still looking at a 56 plate D3 XS.
Can anyone please advise on the following:
Does it have the same off road capabilities/kit as a SE or HSE i.e. diff locks etc
I think the satnav screen does not have the vehicle status info the HSE does - can this added on with some electro-trickery at a later date.

diff locks were an option, even on SE and HSE, so as standard, all D3's have the same 4 wheel drive system/set up.
talk to wiggs, one of the more fluent electrickery bods on here about 4x4 info on your satnav.

The standard XS did not come with a sat nav or screen although it could be added as an extra when ordering from new.
It is a complicated job to retro fit one but is possible.
You will obviously need a factory sat nav screen to get the 4wd info turned on by wiggs et-al.
The base spec 5 seat D3 which was fitted with coil springs comes without 'terrain response', all others with air suspension have the same off-road capabilities, although a locking rear diff was available on all air suspension models as an option. Club N.E.R.D.s

sat nav did come standard, as did leather on later XS's. not sure when these came in.

I have a 57 plate XS and it doesn't have a screen but I believe from 58/ 09 onwards they were standard on the XS. Club Exped trailer

All D3's have got a centre diff that will lock automatically (I think) 
All with terrain response system will have air suspension, and as such can be raised/lowered.
The rear diff lock is optional, but to be honest you would hardly ever be in a situation that would need it, unless your into serious off roading  Never get mad - get even !!
06 D3 now gone to family member and still going strong at 265k
