Can anyone tell me whether a lower gear is automatically selected when in commandshift, if the engine is labouring because the car is in too high gear. (I hope that I have explained that clearly enough)
I refer to an occasion last week where I accidentally left the commandshift gear in 6th and when I was ascending a hill which was just a bit too much for the selected gear, the engine suddenly lost all power and a message "systen fault special programs off" was displayed. On stopping and restarting the engine (the usual cure), the fault went away.
I have to say, that I've experience this loss of power before in normal automatic mode, which was intially diagnosed as a turbo fault but after the dealer reset the system, the turbo fault did not show again on a subsequent diagnostic check. In this instance, was the lower revs shutting down the turbo and should the gearbox have compensated for this, even in commandshift?

Although I dont use command shift that much, mine changes down on its own if you forget but only as far as second I believe. The fault you described I think is unconnected as I had a similar prob towing back from Scotland when I had to do the famous D3 restart about 15 times,. dealer repaired under warranty saying it was initially a wheel sensor fault and then a problem with the turbo. (dont see the connection myself). Not a problem though as they lent me a RR as a courtesy car for a week while it was in !.

Even in command shift, the gearbox will change up and down if you don't.
Your engine fault is not related, although if the engine was labouring it could have provoked the issue. Sound like the turbo to me, but could be a lot of other things.
Go and give it a good thrashing, and excercise those variable vanes 8)

Yep, should definitely downshift (and upshift somewhere around the red line, but you tend to notice that more!) I've done it a few times, going off a slip road in S6, and then wondering why it's not changing up as I come off the subsequent roundabout... (Mind you, it's quite quick locked in second!)
