changing over to biodiesel

Hi guys can any body give me some answers to runnning a 2006 D3 currently running on deisel
and I want to change to biodeisel.

does it improve the MPG
will I need to add a additive to the tank each time I fill up
will it do any damage to the engine i.e block up the fuel filters more quickly
when I fill up will I have to do a 50% normal deisel and 50% biodeisel to start of with then gradually change to 100% bio

thanks everybody who reply Thumbs Up

Read the Handbook, You cannot run on 100% Bio, cannot remember the ratio, but it aint high.....It ruins the Seals in the HP Fuel Pump amongst other seals

Standard diesel can now be upto 7% bio (I think 5% is law!).

As MacLeod says, the handbook says NO. Big Cry

Prince Charlie runs his FFR on bio -diesel

When I looked into it some time back, it has to be filtered and processed and "washed"to a very high standard or otherwise sludging could be a problem.

Landrover do not approve a lot of things but does not mean they cannot work, just means they avoid any legal, warranty issues

remeber their is some goverment directive that was passed that all cars had to be desined to run on at least 10 percent bio in the very near future, wondered if the D4 engine now meets this standard
D4 Landmark MY16 Santorini Black THE LAST
D4 HSE MY12 Marmais Teal: Gone. Missed a lot!
Freelander 2 SD HSE MY11 Silver:Thankfully gone.
D4 HSE MY11 Silver: Gone missed !
Range Rover Sport MY06 HSE Buck Blue: Gone missed!
Discovery D2 TD5 Facelift MY Red Gone Missed!
Discovery D2 TD5 Cobalt Blue: Gone Missed!
Discovery D1 Auto Oxford Blue Not missed at all!
Discovery D1 Avalon Blue First LR! missed!

Now demoted to a VW

In myprevious life I was a biodiesel guru.... don't want to get back onto subject

But....

It's not the BD that effects the seal, as they are not natural rubber there is no issue there. The methanol used in making the BD rots the rubber which is why you should make sure that the BD has been properly washed and dried.

The big issue with BD and LR's will be the cold weather... summer use should be fine....

I know a company that makes excellent home brew processors....

The handbook states "no more than 4%".

The government allows retailers to sell with "up to 7%" - amount must be stated on the pump.

In late April I asked the questions of LR, "In view of the above two points, what is your position?" and "What parts of the fuel system are at risk and would need changing to use a higher percentage".

Many weeks later - and with weekly calls from LRCS to find if I've been supplied by the dealer with the official answer - the dealer gets a printed answer from LR Technical to pass to me.

The Dealer has now lost it! (Both the print-out and the place I think).

If you are now holding your breath - please don't. Whistle

Bio-diesel is fine in the TDV6, as long as it's used with the correct additive in every tank and at the correct ratio.

That additive is Dino-diesel, at no less than 97% by volume to each 3% of Bio.
Happily many forecourt pumps are already pre-mixed in the correct ratio saving extra hassle Thumbs Up
