Roof Bars (again...)
What is the realistic max length of roof bars that can be fitted to the Disco?
If you go by Thule's recommendation, it is the 869 Aero bars which are 127cm long, but am sure you could go wider as bars tend to be narrower than the car.
So seems to me that the longest bars (863) would work without being too long for the width of the vehicle.
Thoughts?
(I did search this forum but couldn't find anyting of use)
Thx !

I use the 869's, but I originally bought them (with different feet) for the scoob, which is a lot narrower. I'd say an extra couple of inches per side would be barely noticeable. (ooh-err missus)

I'm using the 869's (127cm) after lot of deliberation, I was going to go with the shorter ones initially but glad I got the wider ones. Was out measuring and asking questions before I got them but if you need to go wider then yeah you easily could.
Don't forget to get the XT Low 753 footpack as the 751's sit a bit high.

I guess the real issue with bars being long (but less than width of vehicle) is that you'll likely hit your head on them...
Reckon will go with the 862 aero bars which are 135cm.
Good point re 753 foot pack. I see that the Thule selector suggests these for the Disco.
The sides slope inward towards the roof line, so overall width is no guide. It is how much the bar sticks out from the body at head height that matters. You would not want someone to bash their head on a "dangerous projection" as the CPS would phrase it. My bars are 1300 wide and I think you could get away with 1400 if you needed to.
Out of interest, why would you want them to be so much wider?A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.

I thought only the LR 'official' roof bars fitted the Disco 3?

In my case, so we can stack at least 4 'plastic' kayaks vertically on edge or 3 marathon kayaks or... Need the width so have gone for the 135's in anticipation.
