Software Upgrade

Had a call from my LR dealer to say that there is a software upgrade for my car (2005 model). When I queried it, said it was a performance upgrade and would ooverwrite any non-standard upgrades been done. (whatever that might mean!)

Thing is, I'm quite happy with the performance of my car Wink and don't really want this done. My question is, if I refuse the upgrade, will it affect the warranty. Anyone got any experience of this?

Take a look at this thread John128 http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic4840.html and all will be revealed (hopefully)

It's a bit more than just a 'performance upgrade' and is intended to sort out many of the issues that owners, especially owners of earlier model Discos, have experienced such as suspension problems, turbo lag problems etc.

Most owners who have had it done are happy with the improvements it has made to their cars though some owners of the earliest models have complained that it has removed their pre-heat/pre-cool function.
Now an ex-D3 owner after 7 happy years. Miss the car but not the big bills Smile

John,

I personally had the engine sw update some time ago and it does makes the D3 feel far brisker and smoother in its power delivery. Yours may already have had this during a service at the dealer.

I would go for the 'Enhancement Program' as it does check a number of mechanical items to see if they need updating / replacing.

When it comes to the software on-board, is there any way of knowing what issue is currently running?

My TDV6S yesterday reported a Park Brake Fault (amber light on) but this cleared on turning the engine off, removing the key and starting again.

This morning on the way to my dealer the car reported a Suspension Fault Normal Height Only. Again this cleared on turning the engine off and on again.

Dealer has booked me in for a Software Upgrade next week, but this is an 06 model - are there updates alrady?

How often are LR issuing updates to the software?

At least it is an opportunity for the dealer to get the ECU to recognise the tow bar that I have just fitted !

Regards,

What happens outside of the 3yr warranty with regards to software updates - are owners expected to pay for them?

The two faults you mention sound like low battery voltage at start-up, especially if they clear at restart.
Currently, unless you have a WDS / IDS system, there is no way of verifying current software levels. Note that each module has its own latest version, there is no single version for the vehicle, additionally, some are 'firmware only' modules, requiring replacement instead of downloads.
software updates are released 'as and when', there is no fixed schedule.
The issue of updates beyond warranty shouldn't be a problem as by the time it's three years old, the number and frequency of updates should have slowed to a trickle..... I would like to think that it would be part of a service visit after the warranty period - it would also be a good selling point to ensure that owners continue to use LR dealers beyond the warranty period
