2005 D3 starting to feel "lack-luster"

Now I'm not 100% sure it's the car or me

(Just had the Subaru mapped to 360bhp)

BUT

The disco's feeling a bit sluggish off the mark... even with Pete's wonderful map..and fuel economy has increased a tad (1-2mpg)

So

I know the EGR fault does not flash up a warning but is there any other way I can tell?
Or is it a trip to the dealer for a diagnostic check over.

I'm also in the process of getting warranty direct cover (just to cover any more expensive gremlins!!)

Plug your BAS-box in and read the DTC's (fault codes)..........any code like 'P140' indicates an EGR problem !

I've got the older B.A.S box, does mine do that?

Pop in some injector cleaner?
Ours was a bit of a pain to start from cold, popped in some Forte cleaner and is now perfect, for about a tenner well worth a shot IMO Thumbs Up

Hmm, not sure - mine is fairly new, and does, think its the third option down on the menu 'read/clear DTCs'.

You could try blanking the EGR's to see if makes any difference.

Is your intercooler clogged up? or maybe the intercooler pipes are starting to decay?

I'm pretty sure that there's only one type of BAS box and you should find the 3rd option down (as JimboD3 says) will read basic DTCs from the engine management at least.

This should give you a pointer as to what the problem may be, but I would guess EGRs or faulty/split/delaminated intercooler pipe as Gareth says. Thumbs Up

Regarding your 'Bong' - My old D3 (54 plate) used to do this when the oil was getting low. This was never confirmed as a un-documented feature, but it definitly used to do it when the oil was below 1/2 on the dipstick.

My theory is that it may have something to do with the fact that the oil pressure light took a bit longer to extinguish. No harm or ill effects ever became of it, and the vehicle was sold with 126k on the clock and running fine.

My new 58 plate does not bong at all.

That would make sense gareth Thumbs Up

The oil is at about 1/2 and the light takes a second longer to go out than the rest.

Job number 2 at lunch

PS. Where abouts under the bonnet is this troublesome intercooler hose?

a: How flipping difficult is it to read the dipstick!!! Who the hell thought sticking plastic bits on a wire would make an ideal measuring tool... so no idea how much oil is in it... looked like only the bottom blob of plastic had an oil level on it... but the rears of all the blobs had oil on..so tried again... same result...so stuck 1\4 of a litre in and now all the blobs have oil on them... god knows...

b: Error codes on the ecu are P140A and P0405

c: No obvious cracks/splits in the inter cooler pipe as far as I can tell.
