I use them both (SWMBO and me). They both gave up in a 12 month period. Actually, the battery gave up I guess. Tried to replace the batteries but that didn't work.

At the expence of menber Rasu52 it is also confirmed (which BBS Spy already claimed) that a secondhand/learned keyfob will never work on another vehicle.CLUB ILLEGAL CAR WASHERS

Hello, so finally where can I get the best price so I can buy three unprogrammed remotes since my two original ones have holes due to my wife's nails!!!
All I need is the remotes, even uncut since my blades are perfect yet.

I've just stumbled across this thread trying to find out how to fix my key.
I've opened up my key (with not that much violence) and found the fault to be a snapped terminal on the battery. When you have them apart you can see that the battery in welded into a plastic housing. The housing clips to the PCB and there are two solder lugs through the PCB to supply power. Except in my case only one lug is attached to the battery. The other is snapped off underneath the battery. The soldered joint to the circuit board is fine and in certain conditions the battery touches the lug and it works, other times it does not.
I suspect this is a common problem as other seaches have shown key fobs which fail but start to work again when bashed against a hard surface, etc.
The solution is to remove the battery and replace. However, they are not available over the counter at the places I've tried locally. So my bodge is to increase the size of the snapped lug by building up solder. Now contact is made even if the battery shifts position slightly. This is a short term bodge only until I can get a new battery.

They aren't too hard top open - or at least mine wasn't.
Flip the key out and hold it so the writing is facing you. You will see a gap between the key and the writing. I inserted a broad flat tipped screwdriver in there and pried up & down. I tried to keep the screw driver deep in the slot so any damage would be hidden. As the gap grew I used my fingers around the edge to pull slowly.
I went back together fine - it did take two goes to get the key to flip out but that was not a problem. My advise is not to glue it shut until you know it is working well. It will hold together for a test without any glue, but I used mine for a day with an elastic band holding it shut. Once I was happy I opened it again (almost no force this time) and applied a couple of drops of superglue to the previously glued surface.
It looks almost as if it didn't happen. If you look closely and know what happened to it you can see the slightest tool mark where the screwdriver levered against the edge, but this is not significant.
I wouldn't like to swear to the waterproofing now...

I'd wary of buying the second-hand/used fobs from eBay; re-coding them is by no means a given.

Would think your supplying or servicing dealer would be able to arrange such as a rush job on the basis that you are known to them, but Friday afternoon doesn't make it easy.
