Catweasel,
I've got the adaptives on my HSE as an option.
I personally don't think they make a huge difference. You will only notice them on slower corners meaning you need more steering input. The sidelights which turn on when cornering at a certain speed is more useful I think.
Spend the dosh on a set of quality driving lights to get more long range lighting than trying to around with retrofitting adaptives.

thanks for the input Chris. do they help on slow trails like spotting roos and emus. I didn't order them (economics) and was thinking along the lines of the roof mounted sets I've seen on here as an option, both long range pencil type and some with less depth but a broader beam to cover a greater area. how does the cabling come from the roof through the car?

Catweasel,
The spread of the standard Xenon lights is pretty good and you would certainly see animals on slow tracks without the need for adaptives.
I went with a pair of IPF 900XS spots because in the country at 100kph the Xenons on high beam just don't give you enough distance to give you enough safe reaction time for animals. The spread is fine for me.
I don't know about roof rack mounted lights but I heard the wires can run up the A-pillar. I suppose it is inside the black trim.

thanks for that. read a post by TFC regarding roof lights and think they are better on the front bumper of the car, http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic5168.html as dust where I go would be a big issue .

The 'standard' way to wire roof lights is using the A pillar exterior trim route, if you have a raised air intake fited, this will hide the exit point sucessfully, otherwise it looks a bit gash IMHO
Slimer's was wired through the vehicle, exiting adjacent to the rear light on the RHS. a bit more work but neater overall.
a single heavy feed was run to behind the boot trim along with low current switched feeds to control a pair of 70A relays, along with a pair of 15A switched feeds terminated in 'Hella' type sockets mounted on the rear of the rack. The earth point was picked up from the bonding points on the tailgate hinge

I was thinking of roof mounting because I wanted four beams. two for distance and outer two pointed towards the edge of the road but saw your pic and will wait and see how effective the xenons are on theyre own first. cheers
