Steering wheel radio controls.
Picked up my (new to me) D3 this evening, and am chuffed to bits with it having driven it just over 100 miles home.
However I can't get the three buttons on the right hand side of the steering wheel to do anything.
Menu ????
+ and -, I presume volume.
>> and <<, I presume also audio controls.
The cruise control buttons on the left side are working fine.
Is this a common fault? easy to investigate etc?
Or perhaps I've not pushed the right button elsewhere.
Don't really want to go all the way back to the dealer to get it fixed, and I'm pretty good at that sort of stuff myself anyway.
Interestingly despite being an HSE on a 55 plate it does not have Bluetooth and the Red and Green Phone buttons on the wheel. Looks like it will be a Parrot kit afterall.
Thanks

Yep, radio was turned on as I was listening to it wishing I'd brought along a CD or two to try out the HK system.

Thats the buttons, except the red and green phone ones. not sure what you wanted to say though.
Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks

Does volume go up and down by turning knob on radio? If yes then looks like switches is problem, maybe a connector somewhere. Wiggs will probably know if he can get posts to work again.A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. The normal radio controls all work OK, so I’m assuming it is just a problem with the switches on the wheel.
Like you say probably just a connector.
Unfortunately because they don’t work I also can’t set up some of the functions on the information screen either.
I was hoping somebody would say
“Oh yeah they all do that, look under so and so and plug this connector back inâ€.
I’t’s probably not going to be that simple, but before I start diving in I thought I’d ask.
On the other hand because all three aren’t working it’s more likely to be a connector than any internal problem with the switches themselves.
I suppose what I really need to know are the following:-
Does the switch panel just lever off the surface of the wheel, or do I need to go in from behind somehow?
What connector should I be looking for on the column and where, or is it likely to be the ring connector where the wheel attaches to the column?
Is the connector shared with the cruise control/hill descent buttons on the other side of the wheel as they work OK? I’ve tried cruise control anyway.
Thanks

I would suspect just the switch pack or switch pack connection as the clock spring uses some of the same wires for the cruise control and that's working
Airbag needs to come out then there are 2 torx screws on the underside of the switch pack that need to be removed.
When you have the airbag off you can't go wrong with the connectors .. The wire lenght will determin where they goG4 Gone ...but not forgotten

The Youtube clip is a great help, thanks
Just one question, assuming it's you in the clip, the hook is obviously marked with the black tape to indicate the depth to go in, can you let me have the measurement from hook to tape and I'll start cutting up a coat hanger.

Yes its me
You dont need it ..the hole were the airbag tool goes in has a slot inside ...push it till it stops then hook it towards you ( towards front seat )
Make sure you make the curved bit nice and tight ..too big a curve and it wont go down the slot .
Be warned regarding airbag going off .
LR recomend you let the car go to sleep ( clock on radio / red park brake light go out ) then disconnect battery ..wait 10 mins before removing airbag .
I just let the car go to sleep and pull the airbag out ..removing the earth plug first then the 2 other connections after .
Your choice ..but i have pulled mine apart ( and others ) with no problem at allG4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Thanks Wiggs, I'll give it a try over the weekend sometime.
I'm hoping not to disconnect the airbag, just move it to one side whilst I muck about under there.

I made the 'hook' tool and swapped in a brand new set of switches purchased from the classifieds section on here.
Unfortunately it's made no differance at all.
I'm tempted to check all the connections at the back of the system itself next, but having had a quick look I haven't figured out yet how to remove it from the dash.
I think a little more playing tomorrow is called for.
