Irratic idle !!

I don't know if its just started doing this or not but when I'm manuovering into a parking space or even pulling up behind stopped traffic the revs are dropping down to around 400 then upto 900 then settling down to normal, its enough to put the ign light on, on the dash. Its doing it when both the outside temp is above 9 and the car is at normal temp.
I've read of a similar problem on the forum when its cold weather and the car was cold. People said it was a software fault.. I've not had chance to put any diagnotics on the car yet but are there any known sensor faults etc ??

At the time I had a can bus fault on the EPB, the engine ECU had lost contact with the EPB ECU. Hand brake warning light on, irratic idle and no cruise control. Once fault code was cleared everything returned to normal.
I would get the engine fault codes read see if anything is logged as I don't think it will be the same fault that I had.

Regards Ian
