yet another PTI / Bluetooth query

I have a Nokia 6822 (fliptop/full keyboard) which works perfectly with BT in my '06 HSE. I didn't bother getting an armrest cradle fitted as I would most likely forget to take the phone out with me, so it sits happily in my pocket whilst i'm driving.
QUESTION: so, as a BT-only user, should i be able to "see" my phone directory etc on the radio display? And if so, how do i enable this feature? All Ii get is the "memory empty" message. I have found a few PTI threads from the perspective of cradles, but couldn't find any that specifically cover this BT issue. Either i am blind, or full interactivity of car & phone is not possible without a cradle. If anyone knows, please advise!

You need a cradle I believe.

you could store the numbers with voice tags - works with BT or cradle, using the voice recognition system

I'm afraid BT will not give you access to your phone's memory, only a cradle connection can do that, hence the Memory Empty message. Whether you can get a cradle for your phone is another question.

Do as 10 suggests and use the voice recognition system to store your numbers with voice tags.

Hah !! Shocked

If you can get the thing to work that is, which is not likely.

I have never managed to get the voice recognition to work in any way whatsoever, other than the “Help” command. It’s a complete farce & waste of space. Mad

Same goes for a colleague’s Full Fat Range Rover, never worked from day one.

As the others have said, the phone book feature is only available if hardwired with the cradle. Bluetooth does not support this. If you record voicetags (it works well), it still does not announce the call and you only get the number displayed on the hifi screen.

Thanks for all your help, guys. "Memory empty" it is, then!
I must say I'm with Zebadee on the voice command kit - unless you're stationary, engine off, heater fan off, windows up (i.e. in TOTAL silence), the damn system cannot recognise/hear any instruction you give it! It seems to make no difference how loud/quiet/fast/slowly/clearly you speak, it cannot understand you in the real world of actually driving the car around!

This seems really strange. I can hold a perfect chat at 80 mph. I can dictate 11 digit numbers which are dialled flawlessly.

Same here, mine only goes wrong if somebody else in the vehicle stupidly speaks while the system is listening to my command. I talk normally, and was surprised that it worked perfectly because of my Irish accent.

Wasnt there something about if the wrong voice was set up, then it wouldnt understand you properly? I've got the UK female voice that came set up as standard on mine, but I seem to recall a discussion about this a year ago here.

When you speak to your car what voice does it have? It is just lots are only put to UK in one place not 2. If it speaks with a male voice that is your problem.

I think my west country accent is easily understood. Yours on the other hand is getting close to the limit. My dad is a Jordie which must really be pushing it to the edge.
