Rear A/C vs no rear A/C

Gday all,
I have ordered a D4 SE and it won't be getting made until may so i may have some time to change the order slighlty.
I am wondering what the D4 is like for passengers in the middle and back rows.
It's probably not often i will have people in the third row but may want to take my 67 year old parents away sometimes(or friends) and would like to now they will be comfy in the back seats.
Does anyone have some experience with and without?
Cheers

Had a d3 without it then my current g4 d3 has it. On cold mornings having the additional rear blowers on heats the car up much faster and when 7yo son pinches the front seat before wife she loves having her own controls and rear heated seats.

In summary thought it would be a waste of space but we use it loads more than expected

Hi
I would definitely go for it if you are intending carrying rear passengers, dogs etc. Especially if you live in a warm/cold/wet climate (So basically most places Very Happy ) Had it on my original D1 and it was great for keeping dogs etc. cool. 8)
However, it isn't even an option in the UK on the D4 (yet?) so had to do without it in my current car Sad Already noticed how little air is passed to the back with the A/C on "auto" and how easily it mists up when there are rear passengers and the weather is damp. Haven't had a chance to see how the well the cooling works in the warmer weather (may have to wait a few years for that here Wink )

If it will be anything like D3 the pipes will probably crack and then you'll end up with no AC!

I´ve had a 2nd test drive with almost full specs D4. it had the sun roof and the rear aircon, and I have to say that I´d rather go for the aircon than for the roof (you have to chose if you want to have the locking diff e.g.). the additional air vents in the 2nd and 3rd row are great!

I would think the 2nd row a/c is essential if you have 60-somethings in the back and you're going somewhere hot. In our climate (as I type it's 39C and unusually muggy 8) ) an added benefit to the 2nd row a/c is I can manually have the rear unit on full fan speed cool, but the front fans are barely on. This makes the cabin cool but not so noisy when there's only 2 of us in the front seats. Of course this also helps keep the fridge full of essential supplies running cool Very Happy

One more question regarding rear AC.
Is it controlled from the front dash and the rear roof controls?
Thanks

Yes!

You can set it so it copies the front settings, does nowt or does what rear panel says.

I cannot figure out why not available as an option in UK. I have used it plenty of times in my current D3 HSE and if i replace it with a D4 would like to have the option.
Is there an official explanation?

I think it is something to do with the weight of the vehicle and keeping it within limits for it still to be classed as a car or fall within a particular MOT class

Hi, Just curious...... is the D4 (UK Spec) Aircon the same as the D3 without Rear Aircon, or have they beefed it up for the D4 ?.
