Why would you want to rev the nuts off a diesel Question They're not designed for that. The TDV6 engine's peak torque band lies between 2200 and 2700 rpm. There's not a lot of point revving it beyond that. Sure, peak power (bhp) isn't reached until around 3200 rpm but it plummets after 3900rpm so there is definately no point in revving it beyond 3500.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that is doesn't need a red line because although the engine can probably be revved safely to 4000+, there is absolutely no point in doing it cos there's nothing there in terms of power.

My last car (also a diesel) didn't have a red line either.

There is a rev limiter, AFAIR it comes in somewhere over 4000 rpm

Saw that when a "white van man" in a Kangoo type van wanted to race my TD5 onto the M4. Twisted Evil I just kept parallel with him up the slip road then he passed on the Mway. That was when he experienced a "little puff of smoke" and headed to the side! Boy was he upset! Couldn't resist a little wave! Laughing

I am sure the D3 is electronically governed to a rev limit. Diesels of old had mechanical governers, and they could be adjusted to provide more revs,

Did you see the episode of Scrap Heap Challenge when one of the teams tried to tune up their lorry engine by unscrewing the governer? Well, the nut came off in his hand and the engine went into a runaway state, where it was revving its nuts off, and would not stop even with the fuel supply cut off! it was burning its own sump oil, and eventually blew up I think Razz
